Title: picked up my new 555 cylinder
Post by: dgyver on May 17, 2004, 08:08:36 PM
Had another cylinder bored to match the 79mm pistons. There was way too much play with the old cylinder. Still need to fit the rings and hopefully I will have time this week to get it installed. Maybe now I will not have the problem of the front tire wearing out twice as fast as the rear.

Ed does awesome work! He does all kinds of custom engine/head work for race & vintage bikes. Even talked to him about doing an undertail exhaust.

Awesome! Hope you do get a chance to slap it back together and tell us about it.  An undertail exhaust would be sweet.

What kind of muffler would you use for the under tail exhaust?

Hi Bob!

Is it possible for you to post some pictures of the fairing stay/bracket you used for the front top fairing you put on your GS? It would be really helpfull for me as I try to mount the fairing of a Buell Firebolt XB9R. One option is to use the current headlight brackets as the fairing together with the two projector lights doesn't weigh much (and the Buell fairing is wide enough not to touch the frame of the GS) but I would like to consider the other option as well. Actually I don't know which way is better.

Sorry for using this thread for a different subject!

Thank you in advance for any reply!

Have not given much thought to it. Prefer a CF can. Maybe something from a Ducati. I have a couple of aluminum M4 cans from a SV, but I may have sold them. Concerned about the lack of heat from disipation from the aluminum. It really depends on what I can find. Either way I am sure the can would need to be cut shorter. At least with a Duc can, the tip would be rotated in the right direction. This came about with the concern of going down on the right side and trashing the Yosh.

I'm not sure but I think Antibody was making some 'blue prints' for and undertail exhaust. My question is how would you route it. I was thinking goin straight from the headers and take the pipe to the bottom and come up. I saw that on an SV1000S and it looked so damn good. If he does this you think he would be willing to make copies and sell them. I would love to have and undertail exhaust on my bike. I think those are awsome.

How big was the clearance in the old cylinders and what are you running now?

The old cylinder-piston clearance was about .007"-.008", now it is .002" with the new cylinder.

Using the Yosh header, it would be routed behind the right rearset, outside the swingarm and under the seat. Since I do not have anything under the rear seat cowl, the muffler would be mounted inside the subframe. The exhaust outlet would be where the brake light normally is.

Running stock carbs. May just leave the jetting the same at first, since it was way too rich at WOT with the 500 motor, even with the 142.5 or 145 mains installed now. Planning on putting it on a dyno instead of wasting time at the track on tuning.
