Title: The benifits of being a Moron
Post by: Hi-T on May 17, 2004, 10:24:39 PM
So in the last week I have done a valve shim adjustment, repacked my muffler, torn down the carbs and replaced my spark plugs- trying to narrow down my stumble and back fire problem.  Nothing was working-

I figure now would be a good time to check my exhaust gaskets and tighten my other bolts and there it is- the stupid answer to all my problems... I'm missing an exhaust header bolt and the other is loose.

So if i had just followed the basic rule of K.I.S.S. I would have solved my problem a week ago... but then again, I may not have done all the work I did (which was needed anyway)

Anyone know the thread the ID and length of the exhaust header bolts??

I was missing both bolts from the left-side exhaust header.  I pulled one of the bolts from the right side and drove it to the closest (Honda) dealership.  They took the bolt to the back, rifled through a bin of miscellaneous parts, and came back with 2 bolts that had the same threads and length.

I paid something like $1 for each bolt and took them home.  That's when I noticed that the hex head of one of the bolts was 10mm across, and the other was 12mm across.  Oh well...I slapped 'em on anyway!
