Ok Over the weekdn I bought a eli 900, I thought it was a regular eli 9... The guy said the idle was messed up, and plugs need to be changed. But off idle and to 5K the thing ran like a bat from hell. 5-7K it was lean, over 7 K it was running out of gas. So I think OK we need to fix the fuel flow... BTW hose routing was terrible, and truck it home... and I unload it and notice that the block said .997 L, and lokking at the engine serial number it says ZGT00 ... The 900's say ZL9... ZG is concours and eli 1000.
OK the bike has a 1000 motor in it, and further it has a concours motor, cos a 1000 eli mainfolds are different... and so are the eli carbs. Now this is a eli 9 with a concours motor in it and eli 9 carbs.
I happen to have a eli 9 with a eli9 motor and concours carbs... which I am yet to get around to getting tuned in... So the all stock eli 9 I just bought has a concours motor in it and will work best with stock concours carbs, the eli 9 with eli9 carbs well I leave that to your imagination... all I can say is whoooo hooooo... what are the odds.
Cool.
Srinath.
Wow, I am so confused
But good luck with it anyway
:P
You must be living in a different universe. Where I live Murphy's law would totally prevent such a thing from happening.
Yes... Murphy must have had the day off...
Cool.
Srinath.
so you have a slightly faster (when it will run) slow heavy bike?
:P
No I will have a slightly faster slow and heavy bike... with a lot less work.
Sorting out 1 set of carbs instead of 2... the 9 is getting a pipe and clamp on filters. The 9 with concours is all stock... the motor is a exact fit, so are carbs... and the stock concours jetting in my concours carbs means I can slide that in and route the fuel hose right and it should work. The concours and the eli9 have similar airboxes and the same air filter too. Its a drop in fit AFAIK. The 900 I am getting rid of the pipe and airbox so it needs the usual jetting work. That hasn't changed.
Yes its heavy and handles like crap, but a muscle cruiser is a muscle cruiser. Cant expect it to handle like a GS. Its for racing stop light to stop light with harleys... which I have and wiped the floor with a $60,000 custom harley ridden by a custom bike builder too. What was worse... I saw him the whole time, and kept him 1/2 bike length behind me... he closes in, I open her more... going only as fast as I had to... He knew he was out gunned. I knew what his was capable of cos I had raced him with my GS and lost a couple times. Just barely... so I knew I could have easily killed him with the eli.
Cool.

OK I'll explain it in terms of X and Y.
I have Bike X in which I am trying to fit Y bike's carbs.
Accidentally I bought another Bike X where someone has fit Bike Y's motor, and are trying to get it to work with Bike X carbs.
They all fit just fine cos all the external dimensions and locations of everything is the same. Just internals have some differences making it a bunch of work to cross adapt. Now I dont have to do that. I ahve the right parts for bike X and Bike Y... to make a good Bike X, and a good Bike X with Bike Y motor and carbs.
Cool.

LOL
now your speaking my language

What is an eli 900? Euro?
www.eliminator.org.
Check out your pics tab on the left top. Muscle cruiser... not unlike the V-max.
Cool.
Srinath.
Can anybody post a pic of it. I'm so confused but what I have gathered, I think, is that you have an eli9 with a concourse engine and eli9 carbs. and you have an eli9 with concourse carbs. So you are going to make an eli9 with a concourse engine and carbs. And make an eli9 with eli9 engine and carbs. Am I right....or close to being right? This is all so confusing.
Yea 96gs you got it. Eli 9 with eli9 engine and carbs, and eli9 with concourse engine and carbs.. Look at eliminator.org for pics.
Cool.
Srinath.
Geez. Now I feel smart as hell. I actually understood what you said. Now I'm wondering why I make C's on my report card.
Edit:
I just checked out the site. I used to have an eliminator 125. That was my very first bike. Got it about 2 1/2 years ago and put 2,000 miles on it and sold it for $100 less than what my dad bout it for. Then 3 days later we bout the GS for what we sold the 125 for. One hell of a bike it was though. Very good starter bike in my opinion just no power at all. Oops. Sorry for the thread jack.
Its those damn teachers... they are threatened by your superior brain power...
Cool.

Did it look like this?

(My wife's bike, which is FOR SALE. She quickly decided that she's not a clutch-and-gears sorta gal....)

Exactly like that, but we put a small windscreen on it.
A 900 or a 1000 or in my case a 900 with a 1000 concours motor in it... will damn well rip your arm off if you twist its tail. My 1000 made a clean 135 and was still pulling when I shut off the fun for fear of my safety. In a straight line its better than the ZX10 of the late 80's. Its got mucho grunt to a 100 and kills everythign in roll on's and in stop light to stop light racing due to its resistance to wheelieing. You ride up on that and people just gape... its the equivalent of riding up on a Panhead I think. Mine looks like it was cobbled together in a monster garage by none other than Jesse James himself... when it fact its nearly all stock. K&N's and pipe as usual. Back in the day it was beaten in the higher speeds by the V-max but lower speeds and roll ons this pretty much walked away from the rest of the pack... heavy as this was... the rest were all heavier.
Cool.
