Title: Harley Cool Guys
Post by: J-Lo on May 20, 2004, 06:24:30 PM
Ok, is it just ME, or are Harley guys WAY too good to wave to the unfortunate few of us that don't ride Harley's?  I wave at EVERYONE on two wheels...I like to think of motorcycling as a brotherhood [or sisterhood for the ladies out there ;)], and I like to actually ACKNOWLEDGE fellow bikers...REGARDLESS of what they ride.  The last TEN or so jerks on HOGS haven't waved at me at all.  What makes them think they are so much better than the rest of us?  I wouldn't drive a Harley if I found one in my driveway...my DENTIST has a Harley....EEK.

Anyways...you guys notice this too?  My new trick is to give the standard two finger wave...below the bars...and if it's a guy on a HOG that doesn't wave back, I drop one.   :nana:

I haven't really found that to be true.  For most people, 2 wheels is 2 wheels

i've run across the occaisional harley snob over the past 15 or so years... it happens... but you get the same jerks driving porche or mercedes when you admire a car... some poeple feel if you didn't pay for an over priced, underperforming vehicle, your not worth acknowledging... if they feel that way, honestly, why feel bad about it? you wouldn't have liked them anyway...lol

In Rapid City, SD.  Near to the almighty STURGIS rally I have found Harley guys to be the coolest guys on the road.  I actually ride with a couple of them.  I get waves either initiated or I initate 90 percent of the time back.  On crotch rockets if they are in gear about 50 percent of the time back and if a person is goign squid, I have yet to get a wave back sadly.  The only pricks I've seen so far are the pricks on crotch rockets w/ no gear.  I waved at a guy yesterday on the street  ona  crotch rocket w/ no gear and he gave me a stuck up smirk, I was like oooookkkkkkkk.

Harley guys rule.

I have three buddies who ride, and they all ride Harleys.  Really, really nice guys.  Yes, they told me to buy a Harley when I was looking, but when I didn't have the cash or the desire, they helped me buy the GS.  One of them even test drove it for me because I didn't trust myself.

As for waving, I don't wave because I'm still too scared to take my hands of the handlebars.

Ahhh, the Harley mystique...

2 parts Americana

2 parts lcruiser inscrutability

1 part badass machismo

1 part  patriotism/nationalism

1 part elitism

1 part  leather

Sprinkle anti-Asian prejudice to suit taste.

Around here I would say 75% of harley riders do not wave at you.  I like the old joke that they do not wave at you because they are afraid to take their hands off the bars for fear the bike will shake apart.

I like that post in the other thread about needing at least 37 pieces of flair or get kicked out of the MC club a la "Office space"!

Honestly I have nothing against Harleys.  A guy I know who rides an electra could ride that thing in circles around most guys on R1's and the like ... no kidding.  he also rides a Ninja 1100.

They love their Harleys just like we love our GS's.  Who's crazier?

I live in the DC metro area, and I would say that the majority of the Harley riders here are business professionals.  I'd say 50% of the Harley riders I see around here have on a shirt and tie, and 50% of the sportbike riders are in shorts/t-shirt.  I used to manage a restaurant in Georgetown and during Rolling Thunder, we would get tons of Harley guys in the bar.  They seemed nice enough.
