Title: The main course = Stator Surprise!
Post by: Ed_in_Az on May 21, 2004, 07:39:52 PM
The generator runs in oil. :o Loosen cover, and oil starts to drool. :dunno: Lay bike on it's right side and pull left cover off. Stator/generator runs in the crankcases oil bath. Is that weird or what? :dunno: Swapped it. Next up is a nightime test ride to check the lights for the dimming trick.

Well the lights are working OK right now. I'll give it awhile before I call them cured. though.

Battery drain is on the right. Check for spills of sulphuric acid and check the acid level in the battery as well.

I pulled the battery first. :)  The oil got caught on newspaper I had laid the bolts on under the bike. the motor didn't lose enough oil to require adding any. I even had a roll of foam padding(for camping) that I laid the bike over on. It went pretty well considering I didn't expect oil there.

Well I drain the oil and take the left cover off,and when its back up, I replace the filter and fresh oil.
Cool.

Where did you get the replacement stator from?  I had to get one for my snowmobile last year and it was $500, needless to say I sold the snowmobile.
