Title: Case/crankshaft stamps - please help decode :)
Post by: BadBatzMaru on May 23, 2004, 12:35:32 PM
Can someone help decode the stamps on my cases/crankshaft and tell me which bearings I need to order???

On the case:
A       A
BBAB

Crankshaft counterweights:
BBAA
L12R

Is this all of the necessary info to know which counterbalancer/crankshaft bearings to order for my rebuild?

thanks

According to the Haynes Manual you need the following color codes for the bearings:

Brown, Brown, Green, Black

OK... found an old post (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4157) which explains how to decode bearing color based on stamps... My CB has a "painted" A on it so I figure I need to order 4 green bearing journals for the CB (A's on the case too).  Then I'll need 4 brown, 2 green and 2 black for the crank... now what about the rods? The rods both have a 2 painted on em and the stamp on the counterweight is L12R.
Thank you!

Your manual should have a chart for the rod bearings, just like the crank.
L 1 (crank) / 2 (rod)---R 2 (crank) / 2 (rod)
Left = black, right = brown
Rod bearings come with both bearings in each package. So only order 1 for each rod.
