Today I went down for the first time @ the 405 and Beach blvd onramp.
:( . My gear performed perfectly despite my highside off the bike @ about 45-50. Gear and bikes can be replaced.....I feel very blessed to have walked away with only a bump and some roadrash. Becareful out there. :thumb:

How'd it happen? Gravel? variation in pavement height? Really glad to hear that your in one piece! At that speed, you'd expect worse. Were there cars behind you? Anyway it pays to wear protective gear, your living proof. Heal quickly and good luck with the bike.

The Highside happened as I was entering the merging lane of the fwy, which is separated from the #1 lane by a raise concrete/ asphalt island.
While merging, wind pushed myself and the bike close the edge of the island, this is where the front tire caught traction with the edge and highsided me left of the bike rolling over the island and eventually into the shoulder of the #1 lane.
Thank God for the light traffic and that there were no cars behind me at the time. :thumb:
Now this gives me a chance to add those new srinath bars!!!!!!!!!! ........ :cheers:
I'm gonna buy the Clymer Suzuki Gs500 Twins, 1989-2002: Service, Repair, Maintenance (Clymer Motorcycle Repair), through this site of course and start my parts search from there.
Quick question, can the left side engine case be replaced for the 2001 with any year GS 89-00 ? :dunno:

that side cover is the same for all year models.. you can put an 89-00 on it.
I'm glad that you're ok, I hope that I come out as well in any accident I have. What gear were you wearing on your legs?
On a slightly differnt note..... Granted, your helment pic isn't as good as they guy who did a faceplant while racing, but it supports my perpetual arguments with a coworker an my gf about full face helmets.
Any stop you can walk away from cannot be all bad.............

I agree 100% that the gear protected me from even more serious injury....GEAR is worth its weight in GOLD :cheers: . As for leg protection, I was wearing the latest Calvin Klien carpenter jeans......Good call Pantablo ;), btw where's the best place to find the RARE 2001 left tail peices :mrgreen: ?
The jeans protection factor was just about ZIP,ZILCH.ZERO. I'll take a pic of those later today. For foot protection I was wearing Nike Hightop shox, :lol: :nono: . They protected my feet from all abrasion injury no problem. But I would have been in a world of hurt if the bike landed on them :o , its definately worth the investment for a good set of boots.
On a happier note here's the lastest pics of the RASH this morning!!!
-I've been putting neosporen(triple antibiotic ointment) on it liberally with gause for the past 24 hours.
- Any other tips/ or suggestions based on experiance on how to treat RASH?

Damn those Patriots! haha jk, Glad to know you made it through ok. For everyone who hasn't been down yet, including myself, this is a good example why we should be wearing our gear all the time.
Good to have you aboard my friend. Also, check with srinath he was making some nefty crankcase covers for a low cost. Cheaper than the dealer. You definitely need to replace that helmet! I would consider stepping would to a little better quality helmet as well. Fulmer makes nice stuff, but they only have one helmet that is Snell sanctioned. Condsider an Arai or Shoei. I have an Arai, and all that it was expensive, it is my head that I am trying to protect. Plus, it is very comfy; wouldn't own anything but an Arai. That is just my opinion though. Again, glad to know you made it through and are nursing back to health. Those road rashes should be treated with some neosporin or antibiotic ontinment and you'll be as good as new in a few weeks.

I also put down my 2001 bike about 10 days ago, but I was only going 35-40 when I low-sided on a gravel joy ride.
About the knee rash... I was nursing mine with neosporin and gauze for 2 days and that thing just looked like raw meat marinating in pus sauce with no signs of healing. So I switched to Hydrogen Peroxide washes and open air for the wound (wore shorts to work and had to keep my knee tucked under the desk that whole day to prevent my co-workers from ogling), and the thing started healing (developing a scab) in no time.
Bicyclists take vitamin E gel capsules and mush them up, and rub it on the scabs. The conventional wisdom is that it makes a big difference in preventing permanent scars.
I bet Pantablo or DLKasper have some experience there...

The jeans have a pretty large hole near the left crotch: No worries, no "equipment" was damaged during the Riding gear test. WOOOOHOOO :thumb:
-also a small hole near the right knee and on the upper front pocket where I was carrying my chapstick and hand sanitizer, that promptly shattered. ;)

Upon closer inspection of the jacket, it did not fair as good as I thought. :?
Here's a pic of the shoulder on the right- notice the tear and some padding portruding.
-the end of the left sleeve had some holes, where the outer layer MELTED, but the hole didn't extend into the inner liner. :thumb:

I've been researching the treatment of ROADRASH on the internet, and the concensus seems to be that the wound my be kept moist, yet sealed from germs ect. to allow the free-transfer of cells and ect.
The bandage that was recommended keeps the area sealed and is supposed to be kept in place for a few days at a time. But I found its kinda hard to get a positive longlasting seal on the knee, so a couple of times today I discovered the dressing leaking and sending all the "good healing fluid" down my leg. eeeeeewwww :mrgreen: hahahhaha.
I'm gonna try the Vitamin E trick buy squeezing the gel tabs over the rash tonight and puting one of those bandages on top. :)

Been searching for the replacement left case or crank case cover. So far the only ones I found are OEM and were at Bikebandit.com for about $92. Is there any other online shops I should check out?
Hey Hajinomoto1, are you looking for a mint engine cover? I have a 2002, and my old left cover is scratched up, but in great operational shape.

about the jacket: actually, as long as you're ok, the jacket did a good job. unlike some leather jackets, textile jackets are designed to be "one time use only", just like helmets. So as long as it stoped the concrete short of your skin, it did exactly what it was designed to do. buy a new one, and be thankful you're still around to do so. glad you made it through ok, and hope you have a quick return. :thumb:
