Title: Big, old, slow-not a GS500
Post by: jgary on May 24, 2004, 07:30:02 AM
Could be me, but in fact is a 1976 CB750 that I just won on eBay.  Link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2479052533&category=6708.  Anybody know of a forum like this for that bike?  Thanks!

John.

There are several Yahoo groups for old slow bikes, and check the mailing lists at:

Wow! In its heyday that was the bike to have. Unfortunately no www then and therefore no dedicated community to be expected.

Man, that looks sweet!   :thumb:  Old yes, but slow?  It looks like the perfect ride for casual trips on two-lane highways.  Just spoon on some BT45s, upgrade to tapered roller steering bearings and bronze swingarm bushings and you're good to go!  :thumb:

I've had 3 of those bikes. a 1975 cb750f, a 1979 cb750k and a 1981 cb750k... no, they are NOT slow... i went down at 130 mph shifting into 5th on the '75 cb750f ( 883 kit, mikuni carb upgrade). they are however a horrible cornering bike, and even with suspension upgrades, handle terribly... much to my demise...lol but if you keep that in mind, they don't die...(i rode the afore mentioned crash test bike for a year after bouncing it off bridgerails, flipping it over at some point, trashing both sides of the bike... picked it up from the tow yard, drove it home.. refitted the tank, put some turn signals on it and fired it up) the bike won't die... but you have to learn how sluggish the handling is... my first bike wreck was on the 81 cb750k... got ran off the road into an orange tree... durn near ripped my leg off... fortunately for me i had the "crash bar" that wrapped around the engine it gave my leg enough clearance to stay attached.... just barely... that was about 13 years ago... yet again... the bike came thru looking ugly, but drove just fine, these bikes are unkillable........

I have to agree my sister used to ride one I think it was the silver anniversary edition, I think from about 1980. She would come back from a ride after doing a 100 and shaking in her pants from the front wheel being all over the place. But heck...it did a 100...   = )

I had one of these 20 years ago.  Same year, same color.  Had a sissy bar & highway pegs though.  It will definitely be an interesting difference in riding.  Hopefully the weather will dry out enough tomorrow to pick it up.
