Post by: klimber on May 24, 2004, 09:34:55 AM
found an old 1975  yamaha rd350 for sale cheap, however they said the motor is frozen

any ideas as to what it take to fix something like this

fresh oil?  piston seized?

any opinions as to what it may take to UN-freeze the little beast

Did it sit for a long time? If so, I would guess the pistons have rusted to the cylinders. When you buy one of these, and the motor wont turn over, it's always a good idea to take the motor apart anyway to see the condition of the internals. Check if bearings have rusted together, effectively immobilizing the crank. Rod bearings rusted to the crank, crank bearings rusted...

heheh picked up an RD400 like that, poped the head of put a 2x4 on the piston and wacked hell outa it, broke it loose, oiled everything up, put head back on with old gasket and road it, floggingly for about 2 years
was a neat little machine, when it come on the pipe it was fun.
