I'm prepared to admit that Kerry is correct regarding which tube exiting the gas tank petcock is "ON" and which is "RESERVE".
The Answer:
The tank petcock has 2 exit tubes. The longer one is marked R and IS reserve. The shorter tube is marked O and is "ON".
How I tested: I ran 2 hoses from the lines to 2 gas cans and turned on the tank petcock. The results are the same as Kerrys. The long tube flowed gas longer than the short tube did. Logic tells us that this is the "RES" hose.

PS - It never occurred to me to say that if you had a large-enough gas can and an empty-enough fuel tank, you could have run both hoses into the same can. :dunno:

I think it will get better tomorrow when I pick up the new Bonneville :P . No plans to sell the GS at this point. I have a son 16.5 that may end up with it. Depends on what mom says.
I was so surprised, that I retested the original way and of course it stopped flowing after 20 secs. or so. I guess that was how long it took to drain the ON side of the petcock and hose. It seemed much longer the first time. The time -warp might have been from the 1/2 tab of "Blue Lighting" and those 5th's of wiskey I drank while the tank was emptying. :bs:
I've now reversed the hoses as they attach to the tank and assume that I won't run completely out of gas this afternoon on my way home tonight.
I'm going back to nursing my wounds now. :dunno:

I noticed that on my bike, the fuel petcock seems to have been re-installed backwards. (The paint job wasn't stock when I bought it.) This places the "screw" to turn the valve off/on right against the edge of the tank, which makes manipulation of the valve difficult. It further complicates things because the stock fuel hoses have to be crossed to fit the correct positions (they weren't when I bought the bike, and yeah, I ran out of gas.)
I'm assuming that everyone elses has the screw facing the inside of the tank, where a mortal can actually reach it with a normal screwdriver. And that the hoses fit the correct positions without crossover.....
Man, I trusted the O/R indicators on the petcock when "fixing" the problem. I'd be disturbed to think that Suzuki couldn't get that right. Do I misunderstand the bet? :dunno:
