Hello ladies,
I'm a new rider, just got myself a 2005 GS500F in blue  and was wondering if anyone had any feedback for me. Anything would be appreciated. :) I just order my jacket yesterday and I should be getting my helmet in around the same time I get my bike. I feel tortured because they are making me wait 2 days before I get my bike. They are shipping it to me from Dallas, TX.
Now blue, you do realize with your title you are going ot get a million hits from us "curious" men...
There are a number of women riders here who should be able to give you a helping hand. Also there are a number of "women only" boards out there-though none are as informative as our home here :)
Yes, that is just asking for trouble, but "Hello ladies" could be a greeting from a woman looking to discuss the bike with other women, or it could be a guy. I know a few guys who walk into a room full of men and yell, "Hello ladies," with a somewhat sarcastic bent, so this one could go either way.
As for me, I don't care if bluedevil is a man or a woman. I just want to know if this particular bluedevil has ever been "tunneling."
Smooth Dave
Thank you gentlemen for the advise. I know now to be more careful with my SUBJECT headings, but yes I am a lady and would appreciate both female and male advise.
And?
Smooth Dave
And what Dave?
what kind of feedback are you looking for?
Gear-did you try on the helmet? does it fit properly and really snug? It should. Fit is SO important. Different helmets are shaped differently and you have to find the one that fits your head shape, otherwise it might not be comfortable.
jacket-make sure it fits properly too. All the armor should be in the right places. You should be able to grab the armor and not be able to move it around-otherwise it'll move around and not protect you in the event of a crash.
Make sure you get good motorcycle specific boots. Alpinestars I think has a whole line of womens boots..or maybe that was SIDI, yes it was...
The gs500f in blue is nice. You'll like the bike. Great ergos, peppy ride. comfy seat. My 2001 is same bike w/o fairing. I loved riding it but only recently sold it to buy a 600rr. Had it for 18 months or so.
You take the MSF yet? If not I highly recommend it. I also recommend you read Keith Code's "Twist of the Wrist II". Good reading.
Any other types of feedback you looking for in particular?
have fun!
also, check my site for lots of useful information on the bike, and a few mods... ;)
Welcome Blue!
I have been riding for about two months and I have 2001 GS, I took the MSF class, which let me know that I could be a motorcycle rider, a very helpful class. Since coming to this site have have done a couple mods and I find this site to be very insiteful. I live in Tampa, but would love to answer any quesitons that you have. I guess I can totally relate to where you are at.

bluedevil,
And...
You didn't answer my question about whether you had ever been "tunneling." It was a vieled reference to a sacred bond that only a True Blue Devil would know about or understand. Kind of like only a true GS500 rider would know that the gas tank vibrates at about 5k rpms.
What's the significance of your username?
Smooth Dave
I hope that is a typo, 2005, mine is new, but is only a 2004, i wish i had known that 05 models were out.
o yea, you'll love the bike, great handling, not bad get-up-and-go either.
its good to see more women getting into motorcycles. Im tryin to get mine her learners now. Welcome and happy trails. as of feedback. the gs will outmaneuver most anything out there. Its great for passengers and will go anywhere. ITs got enough power to beat everything ive come up against with 4 wheels. Plenty of power for the first time rider. Have fun and be safe :thumb:

Just to expound a bit on Pablo's advise,
Your helmet will be snug, almost uncomfortable when you first try it on. The foam will break in as you wear it and conform to your head. If, like many of our fellow board members-you know who I'm talking about  -you head is "odd" shaped, it will shape itself to you ideally...unless you have the wrong helmet.
exactly. I bougth mine at a dealer and the salesman insisted I get one size smaller than I was going to get. it felt too-snug but within a month it loosened up and was a perfect fit. That's the danger with getting one that fits comfy but not too snug-it breaks in and then is too loose.
Welcome, bluedevil.
Sounds like you are well on your way as a new rider. Dennis Kirk has always been good to me when it comes to ordering gear. You can request a catalog on their website assuming you don't already have one.

Again, welcome and be safe!
If you haven't already done so, take the MSF course. It's money/time well spent, and you may get a discount on your motorcycle insurance also.
And when you drop your new GS500 with the pretty fairing, don't be sad. It happens to all of us from time to time, especially newbies.
I was disappointed to find out when I bought my GS500F that you can't get frame sliders for it.
Srinath is making custom case savers at a good price too!
I think they will fit all the way up to the newer models.

And, welcometo the board.

Welcome, you'll learn failry quickly how to take care of the lil GS. It isn't rocket sience and most things people can do maintenance wise can be done by the individual. If you goto gstwin.com mainpage you will see a page on how to's. In there it tells you quite a bit of info on doing thins such as oil changes. Im about to do my first oil change on my motorcycle and it looks pretty easy. I've done them on my car before so it can't be that hard. I also reccomend picking up a clymer or haynes manual. These manuals cover pretty much everything you need to know on repairs and standard maintenace. Oh and on that main gstwin page there is a link to when you should do so and so repairs and at what milage. There is also the GS500 wikipedia site that was just created not too long ago, that should be a great help.. you can find it http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500. oh and btw if you buy a clymer buy it buy clicking this link http://www.amazon.com/gp/explorer/0892878339/2/ref=pd_lpo_ase/002-9669448-4321632?ie=UTF8, it donates some of the money to the site, be safe and i hope everyone here can help you and have fun .

Wow this thread started 2 years ago. . .
Hi,
Ask the dealer just to make sure when the last oil change was. You can get the claymer or haynes manual for the GS's up to 02's but the 04+'s are the same bike just with a fairing and oil cooler, well the carbs are a bit different but no biggie everything else is the same. If you want to do the work yourself.
Here is the maintance schudel ( my spelling is very very bad )

Forgot welcome to the madhouse
And remember....when replacing....the oil filter cover....don't....overtighten....the....nuts....or you'll have....serious problems.......
