Welcome to the GS500F club!  :)

Take the MSF class if you haven't already done so.  It *could* save your life.

Use the Force.  ;)  Or ride your bike to get the feel of it.    The more time you spend riding will definitely help. There are old riders and there are bad riders, but there are no old, bad riders.

Thank you for welcoming me to the community.  I feel confident that if I need anything this is the place to ask.

wow, you're from way down south.  I was born in Sherman TX, (N of Dallas) and have some cousins in Brownwood, so I looked on the map to see where Brownville is and wow, its on the river.  I'm in Alabama now but was born a texan.  Welcome

Thanks Stephen.  Yep, I'm pretty down south but not that close to the river.  I live closer to South Padre Island which is pretty cool.  I've heard of some nice rides over there especially during Bike Week in October.

When people start talking about the details of an area, I have to go "see for myself".  Just in case any of you are like me, here's a map of the Brownsville, TX area (http://www.bbburma.net/Maps/Brownsville_TX.jpg).

As you can see, you can't get much closer to Mexico.  If you look at a full-US map, you'll also see that you can't get much further South and still be in the 50 States.  Only the very tip of Florida and the Hawaiian Islands beat Brownsville on that score!

EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net

Yeah, I guess I'm as south as you can get but there are some sweet places to ride, such as South Padre Island.  I can't wait to try out all those open, low traffic roads where all there is is farmland as far as the eyes can see :thumb:

Ofcourse, gotta watch out for crossing cows :o

Enjoy your new ride! Becareful around livestock, cows will charge if they feel threaten. I was almost run over by a loose horse once.

i went to south padre island for spring break

most out of control 10 days of my life. i was awake from noon-6am, and was drinking from 12:30-6am. noon-12:30 was spent consuming as much water as possible.

might go back next year if we can't find anything even crazier.

Yep...Spring Break gets pretty wild at South Padre Island.  I try to keep my distance but living so close to it is a little tempting sometimes.  You should visit it at another time and you'll see how peaceful and quiet it is without all those people.
