ouch... guardrails... was the rider ok?
Damn!!! Front Tire Blow Out????
dublinjail good question?
what the hell happened?
Holy crap! that does not look like a fun ride, or is that some new super-duper stunna shaZam!? Hope dude is ok. How did it happen? How fast were they going?
Notice the swerve type skidmarks, maybe an animal of some type which has already exited the frame caused this guy to lockup his brakes? It appears that he's going at least 55mph which is probably a low estimate. The rider to the right of the frame looks totally dumbstruck by what is unfolding before him. Can you imagine that happing to your buddy directly in front of you!
WOW great shot, bad wreck! sheesh
only bad things can come from a picture like this
Ouch...that does *not* look like something you want to see happening right in front of you. I hope the rider is okay.
Nope this is a still shot of a guy setting down from a wheelie that turned into a tank slapper and he did the worse thing you could do when that happen, ANYONE CARE TO GUESS? Racers give the others a chance.
i watched the footage, i will see if i can locate the URL for it.
locked the front wheel as he was coming out of the wheelie?
Don't really no but my guess is that he probably locked is front wheel doing something.
Matt
Tank slapping started, locked brakes, made tank slapping worse, released rear brake front brake still locked causing the rear tire to lift eventually putting him in the position he is in now. :dunno:
i found the picture on a bmx riding site, so i don't know anyone in the picture.
I'd love to see the video of it.
Hopefully becuase he's got a bike following him, he may not have gotten run over by a car following too closely or anything bad like that.
My guess is ... highside in progress!
Judging fom the marks on the road he skidded both brakes, but his current "flight" suggests that he kinda "stood" on the rear brake even after he let up on the front one.
Am I close? :dunno:
http://www.linienmc.dk/mc-uheld/okt15/weeliegoeswrong.wmv
is the footage of this.
Sorry, my mistake, there is another clip simular to this where the guy landed the front wheel and went into highspeed wobble. he hit the brakes.
from my own experience and from other racers i have talked to, you spose to absorb the shake with arms while you attempt to lighten the front by throttleing up. doesnt always work. i got to find that one vid now damnit.

Just as I first guessed, being stupid.
Judging by how limp that guy went when the bike landed on him, there may not BE any grandchildren.... :nono:
don't think he rag-dolled because it landed on him
its more likely to me that he may of knocked himself out or blacked out when he realized what was happening
as far as being stupid goes i think that is an unfair comment
you can do a wheelie a hundred times (not saying that he has done it a hundred times) and the one time that you crash and it is on film and the net and being called stupid for it is unfair
and i personally ride for the fun of it
and the fun of it ocassionally comes from doing wheelies (and the ocasional christ) on very much open streets
but thats me
at least this time when a wheelie crash video was displayed nobody has sait it was cool i mean "awesome" (caugh, caugh, zoltan caugh..)
Wow, that sucked. I don't think I need a bigger bike just yet lol. *hugs his GS*
At least he was wearing good gear from the looks of it.
Well, that explains why sportbikes have higher insurance rates. Perfectly clear day, no road hazzards, very little traffic and you still manage to get hurt.
My guess is that the rider is ok (or at least I hope so). He was wearing full gear and helmet (which stayed on, thank goodness) and I'm sure his buddy wouldn't be such a bastard as to release this image if he got seriously hurt.
Riding a wheelie and having it end badly is not stupid. You want to do it, then do it in the proper place. Riding wheelies on public highways like this dumbass is stupid. What happens when the cars on the road behind this guy sees him wipe out? They panic and either hit the other bikers or lose control and hurt themselves or other drivers.
Wanting to "live life" is a very selfish reason to do stupid shaZam! like this. The vehicle ahead of this group is pulling a camper. Had they been behind the biker, the whole group of bikes probably been wiped out when the trailer jack-knifed as the driver slammed on his brakes.

Quote from: JabbaWhat do you mean being stupid?
Public road, traffic nearby, doing stunts. Stupid.
THis does not look good.....what happened? Stunt gone bad? :dunno:
I have always loved wheelies. 8) I've always done them in the dirt on dirt bikes and quads. Bring up the wheel briefly, then put it down. Only flipped once. High speed, on the pavement, riding for a distance would not be for me. It sure looks cool when it works. When it doesn't, it looks really painfull. I know I'm safer on my GS 'cause it can't wheelie. But, I did take another look at a 2001 1200 Bandit at the dealer the other day. I just looked.

this may be, but remember that there are various shades of stupid:
Dropping a can of soda then immediately opening it... sliiiightly stupid.
Buying your girlfriend a treadmill for her birthday... pretty stupid.
Pulling wheelies in traffic on a highway with guardrails on both sides that could slice you in two sinks into the dark abyss of
idiotic.
If there's a 1% chance of surviving, why not jump into an active volcano? I bet it would be quite a rush!!!
Not trying to tell anybody what to do on their bike. My point is simply that there is stupid that you can learn from and there is stupid that can get you KILLED. You decide what's what... i ain't yer daddy.
Amen vtlion. My sentiments exactly.

Stupid:
Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.
Fortunately, must of us can't afford to be young and stupid.
I think that drinking and driving is stupid. So what's the difference between that and this vid?
Taking risks is different. I know some people with some huge hairy balls. What they do is crazy but they are so good it is scarey- they understand the mechanics and consequences of what they do. They don't make careless mistakes. They plan the event but can adjust and adapt to change. They don't risk others lives with out consent. These guys aren't stupid - they love life - stupid people who take risks die.
Refer again to definition.
How do you know he wasn't some stupid squid trying out his new toy? There's certainly no indication that any of them were experienced riders.

Add to that: "Stupid is as stupid does" Forrest Gump. And "It takes one to know one." - I said that.
So is the guy in the video being stupid? Yep, still stupid. One of our god-given rights as a human I guess. (As a side note, I'll bet every teacher he's ever had (and probably his father) would agree. - Don't get me wrong, I'm STILL officially diagnosed ADHD myself at 54!) :?
A problem I see with riding skills these days is that few people have a chance to do much dirt riding. I don't know where else you can inexpensively learn to slide, pop wheels and brake in a low traction situation. What he did hurts bad enough at 15 mph that you learn that you can't just grab a big handful of trottle. (stupid, stupid, stupid).
Check with the top road racers. They train by riding dirt and only get on their race bikes occasionally. I've read that most don't ride on the street; screws up their timing. (Either that or they are always getting tickets and don't have a license!)

Glad I don't race anymore, I couldn't go from riding everyday to only racing once a month, I'd get too fidgety. Although, when I did race, it was a totally different bike than what I rode on the street, per advice from my race manager (he suggested I race my 550 Vision, others suggested I race my SRX250 (which I shoulda), but I wanted to be competitive, thus my choice of the FZR400 (shoulda been a 250 Ninja)).

Cute bike you've got there.
Its from a crash and squid video by the UK "Bike" mag. And yes, its a wheelie gone wrong.
QuoteThese guys aren't stupid - they love life - stupid people who take risks die.
Only reason he didn't die is because he was lucky.
If somebody can watch that and NOT think "how stupid," then chances are they're not much better themselves. It's little wonder motorcyclists have such a bad public image when people do stupid shaZam! like this...and even more riders actually think it's ok to do it.
News flash.....we SHARE the road with other people. The streets are not our personal playgrounds. Just because you may own a cool bike that has the power to wheelie for days doesn't mean you have the right to put other people's lives in danger for the sake of your amusement.
It's funny how people can Buddha Loves You about drivers talking on mobile phones, or being cut off...or whatever. Yet riding like this is considered acceptable, and even just somebody enjoying their right to "love life."
How many have to die stupid, senseless deaths before people start to get it? I wonder how much that guy was loving life as he slid along the pavement while his expensive toy was shredded. What if a minivan carrying a family who also, coincidentally, happened to rather enjoy life themselves was behind all that and lost control while trying to avoid the crash? What if the van crashed into the ditch and all were killed? What if the family was yours?
Would you still think what this guy was doing was perfectly ok?
It was stupid, plain and simple. If you don't think it was, so are you.
Sorry for the rant, but the motorcycle-related death toll continues to rise around here. The other day TWO elderly people were run down and killed by a speeding motorcyclist as they crossed the street . But that's ok I guess...as long as he was enjoying himself at the time. :bs:
I usually don't comment on squidly activity 'cause I'm usually the perpatrator. In this instatnce though, dumb bastage got what he deserved. I hate the insecure idiots that have to have an audience to show off. If your with your buddies in a parking lot or on a barren stretch of twisties it's one thing....but on the F****** freeway is something else. He deserves what he got.

you may think that this is harsh but if you loose controll of your vehicle its your fault, even if your the driver of the van and your whole family dies it is still your fault

i think that has alot to do with his survival

there is actually his wheelie was really smooth he just kinda lost control when it was up there maybe there was a gust of wind that ficked everything up
you don't just do smoth wheelies like that without experience especially on a bike you just got
For my next Worldly Quote:
"Stupidity, Is the ONLY crime against Nature that carries a death penalty, The Penalty, however ever light or severe, is not discriminatory to the offender alone."
"Tread softly, For the creature sleeps. Ever hungry and greedy is the spector of Death."

"Watch Thyne Arse Less the ground leap up to smite thee"
Professor Knyt has left the building
Can i have a new custom title now? after saying all that, i cant be at fault anymore.

I see...so it would be the guy in the van's fault the idiot on the bike plastered himself and his bike all over the road in front of him...interesting.
Quoteit was more than luck he was wearing leathers

So his leathers would protect him from being run over by a car? I gotta get me a set of those!!
It saddens me that people are defending this idiot. I try to be supportive of stunters cuz I'm all for it in the right places....but unfortunately, it seems most of them really ARE stupid judging by what I've seen and heard/read lately (and they wonder why they never get the recognition they "deserve").
Oh well...go on great street stunters...continue your incredibly selfish and idiotic pursuits. Hopefully you'll get a clue before the day comes when you kill somebody, or yourself. :dunno:

This is a classic. Ah yes it was really a smooth wheelie, you can tell he's experienced, oh until the part where he
kinda lost control and crashed :dunno: If you're gonna pop wheelies with your ego, it's best to have the skills to back it up, gusts of winds or whatever. This guy didn't. By definition, a skill-lacking dumbass.

JohnNS, if you are going to quote me, please reference the whole quote. I agree with everyone saying that this was stupid- you could be the best rider/stuntman in the world and it would still be stupid because of the selfishness and inherent risk to the public. I do not condone this act.
Taking risks is not stupid- how you take risks can be. The risk takers I know do love life- and they respect it- all life. They know that there is a time and a place for what they do. They know that a stupid mistake can kill them so they learn to control their environment and limit what can go wrong.
Before you go flamming someone as stupid, go back and reread what they said.
Quote from: Hi-TTaking risks is not stupid- how you take risks can be. .
I've heard it said that the biggest risk you take every day is getting out of bed. After that, things just kind of fall into place.
(That and not wearing a seatbelt!!!)
Hi-T, my only comment in reference to what you said was "Only reason he didn't die is because he was lucky." Which is why I didn't quote the whole thing. The guy in the clip is a stupid person who didn't end up dying because he was lucky, that's all.
The rest of the post wasn't directed at you, it was directed towards anybody who thinks that wasn't a completely stupid thing to do. My apologies if you interpreted it as "flaming" you, that wasn't the intent.
Cool-

therfore being run over by a car has nothing to do with this video

have you ever ridden in strong gusts of wind they almost f%$k you up when your on both wheels let alone on one
Thanks for proving my point incredibly well Jabba, you f*@&ing idiot. Nice sig pic :guns: :guns:
