Hey Guys,
Just picked up my GS last friday and have been riding the heck out of it, but I've noticed one thing. I filled up and rode like 250km and then it started sputtering and the engine cut off. I set it to reserve and it fired back up. I filled up and only put in 10 litres and it was full. Am I missing something? Tank is 20 litres, but only getting 10 litres of riding. Any suggestions guys?
See the current thread GS dies on the interstate (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9309) for some ideas.
Were you riding along at a high throttle setting when the engine died? I wonder what would have happened if you had left the petcock in the ON position for a minute, or returned it to the ON position after you got going again on RES?
I think all the bikes have a slightly different "time for reserve". I noticed that I go to reserve after about 200 miles and it takes about 3.3 gallons to fill it up. My reserve seems to be 2 gallons.
Older GS have 17 litre tank (dunno your one's age)
In my 91 GS I only get to about 200km's before reserve, normally 250 before I fill up. Normally the fill is about 12 litres or so, so that leaves 5 litre before bone dry. I could probably go to 300km's or so total on reserve, but have never been that game. I normally get ~20k/litre.
