Couple questions.
I have an oil leak that will drain most of my oil in about 120 miles or so. Here are the questions.
Is it ok to use engine oil stop leak additive on the gs500? Not sure if this is ok because of the transmission.
Is there something that I could put on the outside of the engine over the site of the leak to temporarily "seal" the leak? I don't think the location where it is leaking is under pressure..
I really don't want to tear apart the motor te replace seals and such right now. I'd rather be riding. If I could just get a quick fix until winter then I would be willing to tear it all down and replace everything.

If you are leaking oil that fast, you better fix it before you have bigger problems. I would not use any leak stop. It may clog up small oil ports inside the motor and once again cause bigger problems.

Just cleaned up the engine and ran it to pinpoint the oil leak and it is coming from the clutch side of the crankcase cover. Should be an easy fix and I'm nott gonna have to tear apart teh engine. Hopefully that is the only one. Part are ordered and hopefully I can get ti fixed next weekend.
Should I use some sort of sealant and the gasket or just the gasket whenI put it back together.

No sealant is needed. Just make sure both surfaces are clean of old gasket material. Also, check the port to the oil pressure sensor to make sure it is clean.
Welcome to the Oil Leak club, Ive got that gasket laying next to my bike its getting replaced sometime this week. Hope everything goes good for you.

Yeah, I just finished getting my bike running after 1 1/2 month hiatus.
After I started the bike up for 20 seconds to check out my charged battery, new choke cable, new Sylvania SilverStar headlight bulb, and quick-disconnect fuel lines I noticed it started to leak oil. Luckily, it is a very slow rate (1 drop every several hours), but the bottom of the crankcase cover is soiled with fresh oil :o :x
It never leaked before, but I guess letting it sit for a month and a half did something to the seals. :dunno: I just put AMSoil synthetic just before letting it sit too.
