Title: thinking of getting a gs
Post by: 00nothing on May 30, 2004, 05:06:28 PM
new rider here used to have a honda elite 150 just for running around town and stuff and am thinking of getting a  gs500 as my first real bike.
my concern is i am a pretty big guy and am worried the bike will be to small for me with my weight i am 6'0 and 240 lbs i want the bike mostly for running around town and just cruising to the beach with the wife, on that note how comfortable is the gs for 2 up riding i really love the look of the gs and my wife is also interested in learning to ride so its possible i can hand this down to her when i'm ready for something bigger

so i guess i'm asking will this be a good starter for someone of my weight or should i start with a slightly bigger bike i was thinking of a cbr600 but a friend of mine says i'll kill myself in a week

i would personally suggest a bandit 600 S or non S, has double the horsepower and you will notice it with your size, im 5'11" 250 lbs, and when im on my friends gs i can really tell its struggling with me on top, but the bandit handles me well

I think if you were using the bike just for screwing around town, and going to the beach, the GS would be ideal to roll on untill you get the necessary skills to step up too something bigger. You would definatley enjoy it. Not too mention you wont dread the insurance bill as a new rider.
