Title: balancing weights
Post by: Turkina on June 04, 2004, 10:56:04 PM
How much weight should be needed to balance a wheel?

I just got a set of Sport Demons put on, and they stuck 30g on the front wheel and 20g on the back to balance them!  :o I thought tire and rim tech was at a level where you basically lined the dot up with the valve stem and inflated.  Suzuki even puts a weight on each wheel to compensate for the cutout where the valve stem goes...

That much weight to balance seems excessive.  I wonder what would have happened if I took it to the shop I originally wanted to go to...  :dunno:

Thats not to bad. Even lining up the dot with the light side, I've had to use up to 50 grams of weight to balance out.  Some wheels are just out of round, and same goes with tires.  If they hold air and don't feel wierd, don't worry about it.

I figured mine needed a 50 gram but I couldnt find one so I ended up with the stock 20 gram in the location I needed it and it seems to be ok so far, Ive put around a 1,000 mi. on it.
