Post by: airbrush on June 10, 2004, 07:14:49 PM
I am  a new owner of a GS500F. What should your fuel shut be set to when parked, there is an on, prime and reserve. ???? I didnt get an owners manual with mine so was just curious....

Leave it in the "ON" position.  It is vacuum actuated.  No fuel will flow with it in this position unless the engine is running.

"RES" (reserve) is the same, but picks up fuel a little lower in the tank.  Only use this after you have ran out of gas in the "ON" position.  Fill tank as soon as possible and remember to switch back to "ON".

"PRI" (prime) lets the fuel travel down to the carburetor without the engine running.  It's gravity fed.  Only use this if you run out of gas in the float bowl of the carburetor.  Set it to PRI for a few seconds and put it back to ON.  Leaving it in the PRI position could cause an overflow of fuel if the carb starts leaking.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.  We live for this kind of thing.
