Title: Rejetting or rejet How to, what to?
Post by: EvilScooby on June 11, 2004, 09:51:10 AM
Ok,

I appreciated all the suggestions from all members the past few weeks on my 95 GS, THANKS you guys/gals are great

The thing runs great at warm up but after 10 minutes it likes to rev up to 4-5k on its own, which suxs when your at a light or stop
After many many tests and pulling off the carbs, checking for air leaks, valve measurement, petcock removal, air/mixture adjs....etc... No luck

I am seeing that many posts where people have had the same problem as me have rejetted their carbs and it seems to work some of the time.

My question is:

What is rejetting, how do I do it, what parts do I need, where do I get those parts, etc..etc   ?????

Everything on my GS500 is stock, there are no current mods

Also, are there any other type of air filters/air boxes that I can use on the GS?
The stock one is just too darn big and I hate it

Thanks

Cool

Where's the best place for the best price to get some main and pilot jets?

Anyone have some ideas on changing the air filter and air box with and after market product?

Title: Filter...
Post by: The Buddha on June 11, 2004, 12:19:48 PM
www.usdieselparts.com has the filters, RU 2970 if I am remembering it right... will be ~$30 and shipping. You only need 1 cos it goes over both carbs in place of the airbox. With it use 150 mains, 40 pilots and 1 or 2 1/2 mm thick washers under the needle, stock float level at the top of the bowl and no more and 3 turns on mix screw. Also would need a pipe... full system or slip on. Make sure its RU 2970... cos I am confused with eli 1000 numbers as well... the eli 1000 has some cool dual pod filters that go over 2 carbs, and it takes 2 of those... side by side... lovely. Anyway I digress... Your problem could very well be a lean condition... Idles OK when cold and hovers when hot... = lean. especially down low, especially pilot and air screw region. Or send me your carbs and I'll jet them... say $40 for parts and labor... yea yea its 15 or so for parts and I want $25... for myself... alllllll mine... ha ha ha... Frankly I'd rather you did it yourself... But mind you there's some drilling involved... some very wicked, bad, evil drilling... The brass caps on mix screws, and the pilots might have been stuck in there as well...
Cool.

OK,

I am going to buy my jets and new airfilter today
I am going to buy a regular air filter and keep the wonderful airbox

Everything is stock on my bike.

So by viewing the Rejetting Matrix
http://www.angelfire.com/mt2/mikesgs500/rejetting/Rejetting_Matrix.html

My bike is a 95 stock pipe and air filter
I will be looking for
40 pilots, 125 mains

Is this correct?

Also what size pilots and mains come on the bike from the factory?

I think stock is 37.5 and 122.5...  I just rejetted and it took a while to get the bike started up again, but once it did, it was nice! :thumb:

OK new paper filter is a waste, slosh the old paper filter in gas, dry it and put it back.
Cool.
