ok, i've posted in the past about the bike stuttering like it's running out of gas when at high speeds. did all the normal stuff people suggested, and then it was time to change the oil. new oil filter and new oil later the stuttering, loss of power hiccups stopped. i was able to go as fast as i wanted with no issues. OK, so a couple months later i have been a slacker and didn't check my oil every weekend and let it get down really low. so i added more since it's not technically time to change it yet and now the stuttering, loss of power thing came back. so i guess i'm just looking for some possible clarification as to what is going on in there mechanically. i realize that i need to change the oil completely again and not let it get low in the future to keep the problem from coming back, but does anyone know what could be making this happen. a friend suggested that oil filter had gunk in it that was able to dry out since i let it get too low and then the fresh oil allowed the gunk to start circulating and it's getting in there and fowling things up. *shrug* any ideas?
There is a little metal mesh screen underneath the crankcase breather cover atop the valve cover, that looks like a Brillo pad, I'm guessing that sometimes it will clog with oil (it shouldn't, but it does) and a little resulting crankcase pressure may fight with one of the pistons on the power stroke.
Actually, I really don't know :dunno:
:) he, he...
