Hello all!
Still don't have my new to me GS on the road. Turns out I need a valve cover gasket. My father and I are planning on replacing it this weekend, so hopefully i'll be on the road soon.
I'm trying to find the gasket on line, and it seems like everywhere I track it down, all I can find is the gasket for a GS550.
Am I being completely retarded here? Any help finding what I need would be greatly appreciated! It's a 92 GS500E.

you talkin about number 2?

Hahah, that's another level of confusion I didn't even want to get into. Yes, as far as I can tell, however I have no idea why that schematic calls it a cyllander head cover gasket.
From all the mechanics I spoke with, all I could gather is that a cyllander head cover gasket is a different much more involved job. What I want is the 'valve cover gasket' but the pictures seem to match.
Anyone? :dunno:
I was just looking at that page. I'm confused by the [NOT SHOWN] description on Item 2. Perhaps it's for a different part...?
Check out the matching Ron Ayers diagram (http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0027/cylinder_head_cover/cylinder_head_cover.cfm). It's a little more straightforward.
PS - Item 2 IS the "valve cover gasket".

The mechanics you spoke to were talking about the cylinder head gasket (notice the absence of "cover" in there.) Now calling the valve cover a "cylinder head cover" sure is misleading, but not altogether wrong.
are you fixing a leak? if so where's the leak at? i took my "valve head cover" off last night in about 15 minutes (i'm pretty quick at gettin the tank off tho). so it's not a very involved job at all. my head gasket replacement, howver, took 16+hours. so hopefully it's the gasket i linked to above.
Far as i can tell (so far, not THAT mechanical yet and haven't gotten it apart) it is the valve cover/ cyllander head cover.
Course, after calling around yesterday I found out that I can't get the damn thing for 8-10 days anyway, so i guess another weekend goes by without a ride. Tho, dad rode it an hour and a half smoking last weekend. Maybe i can take just a 'little' ride?
Thank goodness its not going to be 16+ hours (knock on wood) and thanks for all your help, guys.

What is the deal with slow delivery of parts from dealers? :? I usually get parts in 1 to 2 days from my dealer.
If you want one sooner, I can have one in the mail tomorrow.
wow, really? Have paypal? I'll make it worth your while! ;)
Especially if it could be express mail!
Man, to get it fixed this weekend... *swoon*
should we take this offline?
Hmmm....as my mind wanders....
