foa excuse my poor english Im brazilian.( bla bla im tired of typing this shaZam! every f%$king time i gotta put up a topic here. :( )
Ok, so I took my bike to the suzuki dealer and the f%$king stupid moron sob mechanic told me it was better than perfect after a "complete checkup" (R$ 200,00) converting to dollars it totals --> U$ 70,00, AND A BRAND NEW FUEL PETCOCK (R$ 200,00 --> U$70,00).
Ok.
Then i took it for a real good and nice TEST drive...observation here: the mechanic told me before I leave that the bike asked for RES just during HIS test on her...ok, so I was about to do My tests and went for it.
In the way I noticed some lack of power in HIGH rpms (with the petcock in RES POSITION)...then with the experience I had of previous problems with the f%$king petcock, I tought everything (lines inverted-reversed-whatever..etc), and to clear the PETCOCK option, i simply turned it to ON position...after some METERS running the bike simply started popping and died. Turned it back to PRI for a few secs and then to RES and then the bike was on and running. Not perfectly (still lacking high rpm power) but fine. Went to the nearest gas station and filled exactly 4 liters (just to be sure I could turn to ON) and then turned the petcock to ON again. It almost instantly died. OK back to Pri for a few secs, back to res and on and running back to the f%$king stupid moron retarded mechanic to deliver the "news" to him. He said to let the bike there so he could checkup to see whats wrong, but i said i needed the bike tonight (and i do..) and would bring it back to him tomorrow morning. ok, now I ask to the gs500 masters here what could be the problem. Thoughts, suggestions, answers, thinks, opinions, solutions, a hello there brazilian guy...anything would be mostly apreciated.
just to make the topic more complete, gotta say a few things i forgot: obviously no gas is going through the "on" ways of the petcock...and when it get even near it, it starts popping. (like when a litle above RES pos)....just here i completely dont know what the hell it could be cus i have no mechanic knowledge of the gs to tell :/
Don't forget that the RES portion of the fuel in the tank can take up the last 4 to ~6 liters. I realize that the mechanic said the bike wanted RES while he was testing it (and he probably didn't use up ALL of the fuel, right?)
But still.... perhaps someone siphoned out (or drained off) most of the fuel while the bike was sitting around? :dunno:
Anyway, would you be willing to put in another 3 or 4 liters, just to make sure? If the RES position works then there's no problem with the vaccuum line from the left carb (which actuates the ON path as well). All I can think of is not enough fuel in the tank....

This exactly how it
should act when the fuel gets down to the RES level ... except maybe for the "instantly" part. See yesterday's thread
WTF is wrong with my bike now??? for a very similar-sounding scenario.

Trying to stick with the simple stuff here - is there a chance that the tank-mounted petcock wasn't turned
all the way back to the ON position? Others have complained of "fuel starvation" issues like you're experiencing in the RES and PRI positions, only to find that the petcock valve wasn't
quite vertical.
You should be able to check the petcock position by squatting down on the right side of your bike and holding your head "just so". Here's a picture fresh from my parking lot at work (my bike is a '99):
EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net
What can also cause this behaviour:
If the fuel line to the carburetors and the "RES" fuel line are swapped, the fuel runs through the petcock backwards on RES and PRI, and not at all on ON.
Strange, I know, but I read of exactly such a case on one of the boards.
BTW, karneck, no need to apologize for your English, you can swear in English just fine. ;) (Everything else is eloquent as well. :) )
I love how Kerry focuses the lens on just the bike part he's talking about! 8)
I love how he used one with a yellow tank for better contrast. ;)
And I sure appreciate if someone can use photography to bring their point accross, rather than to show off how many megapixels their camera has with blurry photos.

Thanks for the tip! Not only did you give us the end-all diagram on CORRECT fuel hose routing, but you've got insider info on some of the WRONG routing setups.
Keep the "good stuff" coming! :)
