Title: vavle clearances??
Post by: airbrush on June 17, 2004, 05:10:54 AM
Hey everyone, just bought a new 2004 gs500f, i didnt get an owners manual with it. Just wondering when valve clearances should be checked, was talking to a neighbour of mine with a bike. He said to check em at about 500-800km during the break in period. Also, does anyone know where i can get a shop manual for this kind of bike?
thx

Not sure about the service intervals for the valve clearance, I do not have a manual near me at this time.

For a Clymer manual, try this link at the top of the page: Buy a Repair Manual (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0892878339/ref=nosim/gstwincom)

you can actually find the Maintenace Schedule on this here site (http://www.gstwin.com/maintenance_info.htm).

Valve clearance check is part of the initial 1000 km / 600 mi check.

Is the clymer manual accurate for the 2004 model? Was there any major changes since then?

On my 2002 they did not do the valves at first service.  They said it's a waste of money.  Had them checked at 8K miles and they only 2 were a little off. After 8K they went off big time probably about 13K and I had them done at 15.5K.  I would have them checked about every 6K if you are cautious type.  Otherwise keep going until it starts to run lousy.
