Title: I did the shiny rims mod
Post by: hehehemann on June 20, 2004, 06:01:12 PM
Took the advice from Pablo's site.

All that's needed is :

A cloth or two
Paint Stripper - I used the Aircraft brand bought at Walmart
A little time

It's real easy to do and looks great. I never did like the grey colour on the stock rims. Just spray the stripper on the rim, I did small areas at a time, leave on until the paint bubbles up and then just use a cloth to wipe off.
The very center of the rims and spokes i left in their grey colour because it'll act as a primer for when I choose what colour to do them, plus they are extremely tough to get the grey paint off. The outer and small portion of the inner rim is now super shiny looking chrome.

Sounds like it was pretty easy to do.

As for a camera, I have a Nikon CoolPix 3100. Great camera. Small enough to carry anywhere.

If you want a digital camera on a budget, then look at the Nikon Coolpix 2200 for about $150 + tax.

I've had it for about 2 months now and have no regrets. I just posted my first pic on the forum. More to come  :)

IMO Nikon is the best because everyone else (even Canon) is using Nikon optic lenses. Here is a link if your interested: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=product&id=1072287232878&skuId=6289713

That sounds cool, I've been thinking of doing that mod too, but I worry about the up-keep afterwards.  How about posting up in a few months and tell us how easy it is to keep them looking shiny?

As for cameras, good advice above, I work in advertising and only use Nikon digitals.  The optics are superior to other digitals.  I have a coolpix 2000, 2100, and 3100 they're all great cameras.

if you are looking for a cheap, but still good, camera wtih a little more resolution than that one, you should look at the Kodak EasyShare CX7430.  Kerry recommended it to me (it's the 4MP version of the one he has, which is 3MP), and I haven't regretted buying it.

I think you can get it from newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=30-170-014&depa=0) for about $240.95, with free shipping.

it'll do some pretty nice shots, and even halfway decent video.

The Kodak CX7430 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/cx7430.html) is currently $222.18 at SecureMart (http://www.securemart.com/cgi-bin/future/SM114046.html?pcode=2).  I don't know about their shipping....

Is anyone interested in my 3MP Kodak DX4330 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/dx4330.html) for $125 shipped?  I wanna upgrade to 4MP!  Besides, I'm tired of the lens cap popping off as I slip it into my jacket pocket.

If noone's interested I'll hand it down to a family member....

I have the same camera, and that lens cap drives me NUTS.  I still have no idea how that design made it through development/testing. Otherwise, it's a very nice camera, but the lens cap is infuriating.

HP 460 some or other is ~399 at sams... I now regret buying the Hp 360 something for 350. BTW big lens is better, Mega pixels comes second, better optics make better camera...
Cool.
Srinath.

I just remembered one of the reasons I put up with the lens cap on the Kodak DX4330.  I had visions of buying some of the screw-on lenses and accessories when I first bought the camera, but in the meantime I have totally forgotten about them!

If you're interested, go to this page (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml;jsessionid=2112JN25L2TFPQHIO3PHWLI?pq-path=1974&_requestid=49108&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=49108) and scroll down to the Lenses section towards the bottom.  I have a reawakened interest in the 37mm Close-Up Lenses (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=264&pq-locale=en_US&cameraEkNumber=EKN026201&Visible=false&navCategory=EKN026201).   Yum!

hehe.. actually, if you take a look, really it's the first post in this thread that is truly "off tpoic." The rest of the posts are all digi-cam related!

It seriously only took one reply to derail the entire thread.

Oh yeah, I have a Fujifilm digicam that I have had for 2 years and loved.  :thumb:

I have the  Casio QV-R40 (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/casio/qv_r40-review/index.shtml). It's down to $179 after $50 mail-in rebate if you can find one. They've been discontinued for a 5 meg model priced at $300.  :dunno:  It's a great little camera though.

I have a Kodak DX6340 with the easy share dock. Got it at Costco for $299
3.1 megapixle. One touch downloading when it's on the dock.
Excellent picture quality. More than adequate for my needs.
