Title: dont let friends play with your bike
Post by: mes_423 on June 20, 2004, 06:23:58 PM
well i was hanging with one of my friends lastnight and she rides dirtbikes, well..... "i can ride that, its the same as a dirtbike" well.....she couldnt. she gets on the bike seems confident and starts to swing the bike between her legs and looses it to one side and the bike and her slowly tip over. it was sad and funny at the same time.   it came down so slow i didnt think she did any damage, until i picked it up. the break lever was bent back and now it looked like a question mark.   i knew it was to good to be true. so now i get home and try to un bend it and it straightened and then snapped off about 2ins worth. now its totally usable but i want to replace it anyway. so i got a few questions if anyone can answer them that would be aweasome.
-do they make carbon fiber levers?
-if so what web site?
or
-how much for stock?
-how much for any cool looking custom ones?
thanks guys :thumb:

I got a carbon fiber look alike from e-bay. Search for GS500* and you'll see them come up. They fit well and Look great on the bike.

The LP replacement adjustable brake levers for GSX-R600's fit the GS500.  I think they run about $7 at a dealership.  Suzuki OEM probably cost more.

definatly replace it tho. they put those knobs on the end of them so that the levers don't spear through your hand on a getoff. even the best leathers wouldn't stop that if you were unlucky.
the cf look-a-likes on ebay are like $15 tops i think.

Buyer beware!  Somebody else was bitten recently when they bought the wrong levers, even though they were advertised as fitting his GS500.

The part for sale on eBay is from Flanders (http://www.flandersco.com).  The part number from the photo is 426-31311.  When I look up that part number, the description I get back isCRBN LVRS GSF600 96-99 +[/list:u]When I do a search on the Flanders web site (http://www.flandersco.com/SSearch.html) for (standard) carbon levers for the GS500E I get NO results back on the '89 or '01+ models.  For the '90-'00 models I get the following info:
                        Left Lever        Right Lever
Model                 Flanders Part #   Flanders Part #
GS 500E                   402-31302
GS 500E 4-Way Lvr only                      402-32301
GS 500E W/4-Way Adj                         402-22301
GS 500E W/5-Way Adj                         402-32304

Feel free to check for the other lever styles: GP (short), Wide Blade, Finger Grip and Dogleg.

==================================

UPDATE:  When I plug the numbers above back into the Flanders search, I do indeed get descriptions like GSF600 and GSX GSXR+ and KAW SUZ TRI BUEL, so maybe you will be OK with the set on eBay.  The only advantage (maybe) to buying direct from Flanders is that you can pick the style of brake lever that you want.  You can mix-and-match on the Flanders web site, but it will cost you!

I only wish I knew how to locate lever SETS (like the one in the eBay listing) using a search on the Flanders site.

A local shop, not a Suzuki dealer, sells brake and clutch levers for $12 each.  You don't have to get Suzuki brand ones from the dealer and get raped by their prices.

I did indeed buy some Flanders/carbon look-alike levers for my GS500F from ebay. They fit perfectly and the brake lever position is now adjustable too. I just had to sand a tad bit of paint off from the end of the clutch lever and it slipped in perfectly. They look DOPE
