Title: GS500F Exhaust
Post by: vegasda9 on June 22, 2004, 05:16:36 AM
Okay, I know the GS500 has been around for years (echo) and I just bought a 500F. I want to find out if there are any aftermarket exhausts that will fit? Will the aftermark exhausts for a 500E for example fit the 500F? What brands should I search for? What have you had good luck with/like?

Yes.

Do a search on Vance & Hines; there's also the F1 series, F1S, F1R; I guess you would do a search on 'F1R*' or just 'exhaust'.

You'll likely find that most of the folks who make an exhaust for the GS500 don't list for later than 2000.  I have a 2001 and the pipe for the earlier ones bolted straight on with no hassles at all.  As far as I am aware there have been no mods to the relationship between the motor and the frame with thw GS500F so anything from the older bikes should fit.  Good luck.  :thumb:

Take a look at where the bracket connects to the pasenger foot peg and compare it to pictures of previous years models. That is the only place a change might effect the fit.
Title: fairing...

OK clearing the fairing will be my concern... I mean the katana 600 fairings hit most aftermarket pipes, cos the companies didn't make new exhausts, they sold the GSXR ones as katana too... and the katana motors were shorter, not a whole lot, but ~3/4 inch, and the damn pipes hit the chin piece connector... that triangle piece. So the pipes may hit your fairing under the bike or somewhere, cos most of these pipes also are same for EX500... and that motor is taller, but made no diff on the 89-02 GS. Fairing on 03... essentially sayd it cant be much taller.
Cool.
