I need to replace the front tire on the White Owl and the suggestion has been to use a Bridgestone BT45. The rear is the stock Exedra tire...will this mix and match deal be a worthy marriage or will it end in divorce? :dunno:

replace them both.....nothing like new shoes!!!!!!

how did you wear a front out before the rear....
the excedras' are horrible tires...IMO
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

The BT45 on the front will inspire you to do things that will have the poor Excedra begging for mercy (or sliding out) with little provocation.  The Excedras are dodgy from new.  Used they are dangerous.  Just curious, though- how is it that you need a front tyre before a rear?  Did you damage the front?  It's usually the other way round.

When I bought the White Owl the rear tire had already been replaced with an Exedra. I didn't wear out the front, but it has some cracks and enough wear that I don't trust it. I would rather not replace the rear unless the Exedra won't work with the BT45. I just don't have that kind of money to throw around... ...BTW, thanx for responding. So, again, will the BT45 be ok with the rear Exedra???

Yes, it will be fine.  Especially if it's in the stock size.

With luck, your front tire will wear out just in time to replace BOTH tires the next time around, and you can get a matched set of your choice.

The White Owl?  You have to come up with a better name than that! Please....

If cheapness is your thing, you might consider getting the Avon AM51/52's.  A set is not much more than a single BT45

$56 + $61 (stock sizes, Discount Motorcycle Tire) vs
$80 (stock front, same place)

I've got not background with the tires, but have seen them discussed on the board.   Sounds like they're a little less sticky and a little higher mileage.

I'm still trying to decide which pair to pick, as my front tire is cracked and the rear is worn.

Quote from: cernunosbut it has some cracks and enough wear that I don't trust it.
Cracks suggest old age, so the tyre will be hard and will not have much grip.  You are wise to replace it ASAP.

Thanx Kerry for responding to my question with a direct answer  ...and to piper5177...are you a valley girl by any chance?? The White Owl is The Great Snowy Owl but I haven't ridden her enough for her to tell me her name!!! (GS...Great Snowy...and she is a white "89 in mint!!...flies like an Owl!! 8)

Yep, 100% valley girl.....just stuck in this damn plumbers body :dunno:
You should lose the Exedra, it's a horrible tire.  Go with a new set on the front and rear.

ps..... from the fiche the tire are:

rr130/70-1
110/70-17

the front one is easy enough... but is it a typo for the rear to be 70-1? tires seem to be listed as -17 or -18.... am i correct in assuming i should get 130/70-17 for rear?

and what is the -17 and -18 stand for?  :dunno:

Kerry

Yes, the rear should be 130/70-17.  For future reference, see either the VIN plate/sticker on your bike ...

... or the tire pressure sticker on the swingarm or under the seat:

As for what the numbers mean:
    * The 130 refers to the width of the tire in millimeters.

    * The 70 refers to the "aspect ratio" of the tire - its height relative to its width.  In other words, the tire's height (from the rim to the tread) is 70% of its width.  The Cheng Shin Hi-Max 130/
90-17 that davipu is riding on has a significantly more round cross section than the stock Exedras.

* The 17 refers to the diameter of the wheel rim, in inches.  This is the one number that you can't mess around with as long as you run the stock wheels.[/list:u]
