Hi, I was planing to sell my bike and get an R1 but after I found out how much full coverage will be ($7,500 -- no joke from progressive, unless thier agent was messing with me, and liability was $1,500)

So I decided to keep my bike and just put on some mods like:

jetkit
exust
higher pegs
bars and mirros
engine guards <------ (where can i get these, pls help, I cant find them)
and some other mods if they are good.

Please recommend good stuff, I have about $500-$800 to put in to this bike

hope to hear from some good ideas.
Thanks,
Dennis

i got my pair of engine guards from the dealrship i got my bike at.  if they can order parts, chances are they have a suzuki catalouge and can order those for you.  if you got it used, hence no dealership, just haed out to your closest motorcycle parts shop, i'm sure you'll find one.  other than that, maybe someone on this board is looking at getting rid of theirs.  as for cool mods, i'd recomend checking out pantablo's site, i don't have the url offhand, but just look for one of his many posts and the link is in his sig.  personally, i'd strongly recommend progressive front springs, 15wt fork oil, and a new rear shock.  i havn't done the shock yet, but i plan on it.  other than that, good luck with the gs, and happy modding.

You can get some really nice engine guards from http://www.riderhaus.com they run about $70 plus hsipping and handling.  Here is a pic of what they look like (not my bike) with some luggage access http://memberstripod.com/BabyBurma/Riderhaus.htm  these engines guards provide the best coverage I have seen, even better than the OEM ones from Suzuki ... wish I would of had mine before I laid my bike down

As for the R1 one reason the insurance is so high on those bikes is because less than 45% of them are still on the road ... from people stuffing them into the ground  :(
hope that helps

Cool-more mods...
got only $500-$800 to spend then spend wisely and get the most bang for your buck. From a performance point of view-the best mods you can make are suspension-so start there.Definitely Progressive fork springs and 15w oil-$60+oil cost. Rear shock for $25-$35 on ebay (Katana shock ideal).

Check out the for sale section-lots of exhausts for sale-expect to pay $200-$300. you'll have to re-jet so factor your time and $20 for a kit (of srinath will tell you how to do it dirt cheap without a jet kit-hopefully). Check my site for jetting info (I'm quoting Srinath there)

Bar end Mirrors-napoleans $28/each http://shop.store.yahoo.com/azmotorsports/mirrors1.html or bellacorsa-$34/pr http://www.bellacorse.com/bcc009.htm ; bicycle bar ends $8-$15 http://www.bikepartsusa.com/product_info.phtml?p=01-170336
http://www.bikepartsusa.com/product_info.phtml?p=01-167630 (In fact, I've got one Third Eye left from the last pair I had-they mount into end of bar replacing the bar end...couple bucks for postage and it's your's free.

I'm getting my hands on a set of CBR stock rearsets for higher pegs but I'm finding I'm pretty comfortable where they are now that I have the new handlebars...will consider selling to you if intersted-$55 including shipping.

Save your money on handlebars and get drag bars from azmotorsports for $10 ($14 for powder coated black) http://store.yahoo.com/azmotorsports/knclubhanbla.html

Buell Blast or M2Cyclone or X1 flyscreen (windscreen?) can be had from ebay for $20-$40 or buy  new at H-D dealer for $60. Install with zip ties or buy the two small brackets for the M2 $20/pr. Ducati screens lok cool too but can be more money on ebay-good to keep your eye's open.

Save some money for Color-Rite spray paint to repaint your bike or use this http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_repaint.htm with dupli-color paints...

should be a good start-gotta run, baby crying.

Okay, a few more ideas...

Get good rubber. if you can swing it you'll spend $250 for a pair of sticky sport tires. This goes along with the suspension upgrade well.

Another idea which is more time than money that I've been contemplating doing myself is painting the spokes on the wheels to match the bike (assuming your rims aren't white-I'd change that first to black or gray). The new Kawasaki Z1000 has matching colored spokes and even though this idea dates back a ways it looks good IMO... http://www.kawasaki.com/index2.asp

Turn signals-
You have a few options if interested...First, obviously you can buy Buell turn signals-a pair for the rear at $14/pr or aftermarket Lockhart Phillips short stalks for $20+, then move the rear stock ones to the front sonce they're shorter than fronts. You could also do flush mounts but I don't personally like them much cince you'll be drilling the body panels.

You've cut the rear fender already (fenderectomy), right?

later-
see you tomorrow.

pantablo:
if you still got'em i'd be interested in the cbr rearsets
lemme know

pantablo

Yep, they're just sitting there. Don't plan on installing them since I feel fine without, and I'm not scraping often enough to justify spending the time to install them. Check my site for prelim install page (and pics of the rearsets themselves). All I've done to them is drilled out the holes (slotted them) to get them to align with the gs mount. I haven't even checked fit yet but compared them to some peg brackets laying around and look like they'd line up alright.

$55+shipping...will have to check shipping to Canada. Any suggestions on good/bad shippers...USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.?
