Does anyone know what this part is?

Howdy,

So I've been working on my GS for a while now and, long story short, I took off the engine sprocket cover to find something really strange.

There was a rubber part sort of setting in there propped against the chain and I have no idea what it is  . A closer inspection of the part revealed "K&N" on one side and "087018-1" on the other. So my question is this: Does anyone know what K&N part# 087018-1 is?

Ahhh the old K&N front sprocket mod....

I guess it could be part of an air filter, but I don't know which part. It's just a piece of rubber (like a really big grommet sorta).

Whatever it is, I honestly have no idea how it got there.

Could it be the restrictor that goes in the K&N drop-in air filter?  Not sure what it was doing under the sprocket cover...

I think that settles it.  It is the air restrictor from a K&N filter.
