I know a concept that would theoretically work for reverse movement. .. not my idea, I just know of it...
But it's real world usage/efficiency/ reliability/serviceability is problematic when it comes to motorcycle movement. .. I know it definitely WOULD work on a basic level, it's the advanced performance that's the issue......
Some Ride on lawnmowers use the system, large commercial honey extractors also use the system ...
About to sleep for work early rise right now and using phone to post, so not easy put up a pic (do that later)....
Just tried to explain here without pics but hard to.visualise the interface between chain and drive system...
Yama, ill get back to this very soonish, but reverse is doable in basic theory, it's the engineering/mechanism that needs pondering. ...
If you find pics of ride-on belt drive sets and how they reverse ..or of larger honey extractors with the 3 disc reversible drive system then you might get a preliminary concept of what I mean
I'm sure there are other machinery uses that have the system (it's kinda like a exploded view differential but more basic
