No Spark. But not always.
« on: August 22, 2019, 02:29:48 PM »
Hi, looking for any help I can get.
I've been doing a lot of work on my K5 gs500, restoring it back to full working order after it being stolen and crashed, but that's another story.
The bike will more often than not run perfectly fine but has started to refuse to spark on occasion, sometimes after being left sitting but more often just after being run or whilst running.
I have tested resistances on the coils and pulse generator and all are within spec.
I've tried push starting the bike only to hear the engine turn over but with no ignition.
The bike has new spark plugs and new battery
As I've been restoring the bike it has been apart and connectors have been cleaned up with a brass brush before reassembly.
At this point the only option I'm seeing is replacing the CDI, but any thoughts are welcome.
Sorry all for the long post
Cheers, Nat.

*Addition* I should say all other electronics on the bike work without fault even when the bike refuses to spark

Could be the ignition pickup. Often if there is a fault, it will test fine when cold.
