So here's my experience with this setup. I know people have said this is hard to jet for but lets try.

I started off with the recommended settings from the wiki

pilot 40
main 140
washers 1
turns 2.5

Idles great. 6k - redline feels fine. felt a little unresponsive between ~2k-6K; particularly noticeable in high gear around 3-4k rpm. seems like they are lean symptoms according to the wiki. rode like this for the past 1000miles.

So according to wiki this range indicates a problem with the needle. maybe the pilot jet. so now i adjusted to 1.5 washers.

pilot 40
main 140
washers 1.5
turns 2.5

note: i am saying 1.5 washers assuming the standard washer used is a.5mm (.020").  I was able to find custom .25mm (.010") washers at work, so i used three.

I went out for a quick test ride and the bike feels better around the low-mid range 3k-6k.  coming off of idle still seems a little laggy (1.2 - 3k). i haven't tried a full 2 (1mm) washers but it seems like it would be too much with the testing i just did.

I may try 1 up on the pilot jet. I will do some more testing.

question? is the standard washer mentioned in the wiki a .5mm? i've read a couple of posts about this but didn't see too many solid answers.

also read about using #4 washers. a regular #4 ANSI washer is 0.125 ID x 0.375 OD x 0.0400 thickness. http://www.engineersedge.com/plain_washers.htm

my washers are .1 ID x .21 OD x .010 thickness.

wiki doesn't mention the washer dimensions. what washers are you guys using?

try 3 turns on the mix screws.Everything else should be spot on.Lunch box and stock exhaust has been hard to tune for quite a few people.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Well 2-6K - yea put a sock on the filter. That total lack of vacuum in the lunch box is hard to get mated with the tight a$$ pipe.
Get one pair of those matronly girls knee highs, thicker and grannier the better. Put one and run, then do 2, for good measure soak em in K&N oil. Try it.
Cool.

i see, just restrict it more huh.

what about the washers? any idea what thickness the jet matrix calls for?

Jet matrix ... jet matrix .. dude you're it, you've come closer than any man/woman/creature/buddha has with that setup.

Of course the lack of vacuum will hurt the low end the most, we know that, which is why we wisely avoid the set up ... but then you're free to play though. Dont let my lack of patience or time or inclination, or lack of having a bike with a stock pipe limit your imagination.

#6
so while i was in my carbs yesterday i adjust the fuel mixture again and had some good results.

pilot 40
main 140
washers 4(4 x .25mm thick)
turns 2.5

i was having that mid range stutter last year and its now gone with this set-up. my engine now revs evenly right through to redline.

so if you have the k&n and stock exhaust remember to put 1mm worth of washers under the needle
