So yeah. Its been a moment. I doubt there is anyone left here that would remember me. I used to go by the nick name, darkcyde (Huge Floyd fan). About 20 years ago I had a 89 Yamazuki GS500.5 (named by one of the members of this board). The bike had an R1 tail, R6 tail light, R1 can and R6 pegs.
Health issues caused me to sell the bike just as I was getting close to finishing it.

Fast forward about 20 years. I am back with another GS. This time its an 05 non-nudist edition. I plan to get a build thread going soon on this bike. I am either going to build an adventure bike out of it. Or I might go back in time and finish the project that I never got to finish. I wish I still had photos of it. I felt like it was a nice looking bike for what it was. That I guess I will work out as I go along. For now, I just wanted to say hi.

Cheers,
Mike

Not sure I remember you but I do remember "things" about that bike.

Welcome back!

Sadly the board isn't as popular as it once was, but some veterans are still around and post every now and then.

Personally I haven't had a GS in close to 10 years, but I can't seem to stay away.

Welcome back!  Can't wait to see the new thread and what you do with it!

Thanks for the welcome. I feel like a priest in a school yard. Ive already taken the whole bike apart with the exception of the engine. Spent most of tonight pricing out what this build is going to cost.(not happy, but expected) There is much wrong with this little bike. heres a quick laundry list of just what its going to take to get it started and running again.
front and rear tires $225
lockset $45.00
Battery  $70.00
Clean and kreame tank $Bar of soap and a male stripper? No idea.
Clutch cable $20.00
Sparking plugs $22.00
petcocks (both) $100.00
Front brake master cylinder $32.00

I live on Disability now. Gone are the 300k years. so this build is going to be more of a long distance marathon then a 100yrd dash.
To make matters worse... both my car and my main bike is down at the moment, so this project showed up at a bad time. Im hoping I can at least get the lockset and the battery next month. That way I can trouble shoot what else the bike needs. I realize I can pull the battery out of my zx7 and probably figure out how to hot wire the GS500. But honestly, I need to be installing a clutch in the ZX7 so I have at least something to drive! once I get that done, I might just try to hotwire the GS. Im dying to see what shape it is in. it only had 9k miles on it.

The P.O. was nice enough to not only loose the Key, but the title too! The good part is that he is willing to go to the DMV and get a replacement title. I guess I shouldnt complain. I got the bike because he put it in storage 10 yrs ago, and forgot it too. (the bike) I traded a craftsman tool box for it.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi there,
Where are you located?
I might have some parts that I woould donate to you.
Front master cylinder.
Maybe more.
I have a 1991 GS500E and many spare parts.
Let me know what you might need and I will look around my parts stash.
I am in PA in the US.
Yours,
Trwhouse   (I've been around since the beginning but no one visits this place much anymore. Very sad. This was once a VERY thriving GS500 community.)
