I was gonna build my GSXR-1000, but... That bike is already where I want it.  I figured I wouldn't mess with it.

Anyway, I've always wanted a legit cafe racer.  So, I went on craigslist and found an old Yamaha for $400, and today I had my first successful craigslist transaction.

The bike is no looker as is.  It's actually quite the hideous freak. lol.  But with A LOT of TLC, hopefully I can get her in pristine condition, and looking better than ever.

I am going to need some help with something.  I'll need help with the first thing I'm gonna do... engine.  I've actually never taken one apart, and I don't know what to expect.  I'm actually quite scared to be honest.

It's gonna need a new gas tank, no doubt. Also a new ignition switch because it didn't come with a key. Of course a battery, and a bunch of other things.

I'll post pictures of the bike tomorrow.

If you're taking the engine apart, I would go to the right crowd. Find a Yamaha forum for your bike. The GS wizards here can help you take a part a GS engine no problem.

We still want to see pics though. And I'm sure there are engine people here who can help you as well.

I am also registered at yamahaclub.com, but I figured since I'm an ex GS owner, I'd post my build here too.  Thanks for the reply.

Nice pick up, what is wrong with the engine? I have a 78 that i totally rebuilt so if you need some help i know quite a lot about xs 750s. i currently need a new engine, might fix my old one first though.

Here's my 78 xs750se:

As previously suggested, you should post some pics of yours!  :thumb:

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Nice! That looks sweet.

Here's a picture of the bike in it's current state. I took the picture from my window because it's so cold outside. It sits next to my Gixxer den with no kick stand. lol

The guy was gonna give me the seat but I told him I was just gonna replace it with a cafe seat, so I let him keep that for his other xs.

Before I start making it look spiffy, I'm gonna be building a 4 bike garage.  I need to fit both my bikes, my dad's harley, and my friend James' Kawasaki cafe project.  We're both doing cafe's from old bikes.

But we both have a long way to go before we get there.  Untill then, I'll just be tarping it.

What's wrong with the engine? Or do you not know? Does it just not turn over?

I had a triple once, the motor was locked up when I bought it. Had high hopes but low funds and time so I gave it to some kid when I moved. I didn't look very hard but parts were kind of pain to find.
