Did a bunch of stuff today after finally going to Adidas guy's bike cave. Low and behold, it was everything it seemed to be online. So heres what we did today. We checked out why the rear was so low, could not figure anything out. Shock is stock, links are stock... who knows. Frame altered some way? Swing arm altered? Couldnt figure it out. Maybe the 89 frame is lower in the rear anyways? What do you guys think?

After looking at all that, we replaced the gauges, got a new chain guard, new gs shock, new lowering link kickstand, LED dash lights, and new rear plastics with center piece. Also other small things like rubber gromets and nuts/bolts. And.... Heres some pictures!

New Gauges and LED dash lights.

New gs500 chain guard, looks awesome!

New tail plastics with center piece, looks good with the new taillight!

New Kickstand that works with the lowered rear end.

Heres a picture with everything on it and as it stands right now.

Hope you guys like em'! Adidas really helped me out here and I know he will continue to do so. Now I need a belly pan!

Oh, and those plastics are going to be painted. No need to rag on him for having a bike that looks like a Mardi Gras float (for the moment). The replacement plastics have all the tabs.
Forgot that I gave you a replacement rear fender and tail-tidy light.

I am still confused as to why your bike is low. We will get it solved.

I have to say your bike has the best bailing wire I have ever seen!  :icon_lol:

Oh, I forgot that we cleaned and baby powdered the left side of the engine. No leak from mounting bolt. Most likely bubbling is water in the passage for the mounting bolt boiling out and bubbles show in the oil that is leaking elsewhere. Got late so we had to stop. Good thing is the engine case is not cracked. We confirmed that.

I have the lad some homework of cleaning and tracing sources of oil leaks. Funny when he says "Hey, do you have a ______". He soon learned to change that to "Where is a______". (The young learn quickly!) The bike cave has most parts. Just one size of short stainless allen head screw I am low on.

Man, must be nice to have the world's largest part supplier in your back yard!  :D

jacob92icu

Haha I know right? And Adidas, I realized when looking for a pair of scissors to cut the electrical tape, that out of all those nice tools you have, all you have for scissors is a rust infested pair from the great depression  :icon_mrgreen:

damn i cant figure out why hte gs of yours sits so low. all things being stock. w/o seeing a closeup of the pivot  shaft and shock mounts etc. i can only guess. And right now my brqain is drawing a blank. But that being said, job well done thusfar. and yeah adidas is a hell of a nice guy i must admit.

Thanks man! Appreciate it. I'm going to fix the low rear end by getting some 6 11/16th dog bones from a website that gsjack suggested.

I finally decided to tackle the daunting task of replacing the terribly done jerry rigged scooter headlight. It was a real PITA! But I finally got it done with a little help from Adidas over the phone. Here are some pictures of the scooter headlight that she had on her:

It was oh so terribly sloppy... It had to be removed and replaced with the front section of this nice wiring harness I received from Adidas:

So, I decided to chop it right before it heads into the headlight bucket. Like so:

I then proceeded to strip the wires and began wondering what kind of mess I got myself into...

Long story short, I connected them all to the right place and now it works beautifully with a little help from Adidas!

Caught it just at the right time so all the indicator lights were on. So pretty.

Loving the new headlight! So much better than the stupid scooter headlight that never had a high beam, and now everything works
perfectly.

Heres a picture of the bike as it is now in black and white to show the true beauty! ;)

I am pleased at how many people have benefited from that pathetic, crappy parts bike. Gauge jewels, 89 clip-ons, left handlebar controls, and even the old wiring harness. I thought the wiring harness was destined for the trash until I saw Jacob's with the melted wires, scooter headlight and really bad tape job. High bean shorted out. Stuff not working.

Still have good rims and motor from that bike and the aluminum knuckle. Frame will become a coffee table outside the Bike Cave!

Interesting and fun - members of the West Seattle GS500 Club get free phone consultation!

Nice job Jake. Glad you got tro ride today. And is that correct on the trip meter: 84 miles since we put on the gauges I got from Rich? (Amazing how parts get recycled here!)

Maybe I am a parts whore/hoarder. Parts get handed out to any bike in need. (...and I don't make money either. I love to help get bikes fixed!)

jacob92icu

Haha yes it is true! I ride everywhere I can when I have a working bike. However I did not get to go for a ride today, I will tomorrow most likely. I just figured out a temporary way I could rig up the tail tidy light you gave me. I tried it and it worked but I think I will hold off on that for now until I maybe put on that chopped fender you gave me with a little more choppage from me. :icon_lol:

Not to hijack the thread, but hey adidas- since you're just throwing parts around, what are the chances I could nab a front fender bolt and rear plastics rubber grommet from you?

Looks like the bike is making some real forward progress. Maybe you should just lower the front fork as well and put some spinners on it.  :D

jacob92icu

Hahaha. Nooo, it would have to be spokes and hydraulics if I did that.
