He guys I'm Dirk and I'm from Holland.
I own a 1990 GS500 which i bought it in original state in 2011:

Result so far:

When I bought her she needed a lot of love and maintenance, so I gave it to her some:

This was the result;

Finally i was happy with the bike the way it drove, now it was time for some cosmetic upgrades and more maintenance:

Than the rebuild started:

Now there was no way back so i decided to go on... now with a view modifications:

With this as result:

I was actually quite happy with the result so i drove it like this for one summer.
At the end of this summer my hunger to work on the bike started to grow again so I took a paper and a pencil and started to draw... the result:

Now there was son serious work to do:

The build of subframe and tail where made by the famous Jerryt from Holland.

This was the point where Photoshop was my best friend, it transformer the image above in to this:

Now it was time for the final paint job..

I don't think I will do much more to the bike. The only thing I'd like to do is a engine mod this sunday I will pick up a 2007 engine with stage 3 carbs, so next winter I won't have to sit still.
To be continued...
Sorry for my bad english ;)

Ok, so the first step which was basically an awesome restore, I was like 'wow, very nice work'

Then he says he wanted cosmetic upgrades and maintenance... and I'm thinking  :icon_eek: Whaaa? No, don't mess it up, it looks soooo good...

Then I see these 'cosmetic upgrades and maintenance'... and I'm like 'wow, very nice! Elegant detail - looks brand new!'

Then he says he wanted modifications... and I'm thinking  :icon_eek: Whaaa? No, don't mess it up, it looks soooo good...

Then I see these 'modifications'... and I'm like 'wow, very nice! Worthy upgrades and it looks damn good!'

Then he says he wants to chop it up... and I'm thinking :icon_eek: Whaaa? No, don't mess it up, it looks soooo good...

Then I see this chopped product...

Amazing progression, and such a SWEEEEET outcome!  BRAVO!

Very nice build!
That rear end looks so cool.

Although, when you opted for USD forks, you should've used Aprilia RS250's, with dual callipers.

Just my 2 cents.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.
Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Whatttttt????

This is such a nice looking bike! Omg! I would love to do something just like this!

The GSXR front end is so expensive, but now I see an rs125 front end!?!? Why have I never heard of this??

How easy was the RS125 swap? Theyre so much cheaper! Why dont people do the swap more often?? lol
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Brilliant!! each new idea was a leap in the right direction from what i thought would be the great end of a great project.  :thumb:

Thnx for all the positive reactions :-)
The reason i chose for the RS125 fork is simple, it just came in my way very cheap.
But installing the fork took a lot of work and adjustments.

A huge +1 to this!

I would have taken this bike at any of its stages. Great, great job!

Gs500fmrex

Wooooooooooooooooow mate , the Dutch have done it, ich gratuliere :)

dB-tje

Today i bought my new project.
It is a 2007 engine with only a view km's and dynojet stage 3 carbs.
All electronict came with the engine just as an extra set of all the loose parts.

Gs500fmrex

Yeah dirk, I thought that that's what was still missing from your bike   :D it just wasn't complete before ... Joking ;)

nico

This is a beautiful example of the possibilities these bikes have. You've done a GREAT job with this. I have yet to be disappointed with the Dutch and their modifications (Volvos, VW's, Vespas, BMW's among a few things): always so well executed and pulled of in a classic, clean and effective style and function, and this is no different.

Initially I bought my GS 500 because it was cheap and reputed to be reliable and an ideal beginner's bike, and since I came from a Vespa background, it was the ticket.

Please keep us posted of your progress. I eagerly await an update.

Zookmang

Looks like the sort of bike I dreamt of when I was a kid. Absolutely amazing job, especially the rear end.
