$50 for the scoot, another $50 for another GY6 150cc engine with the rear wheel.  Also got a beefier fork from another one, with the wheel and tire, for free.  $100 total.

10 minutes of hammertime later...

Not sharing yet where I'm going with this project lol...but it'll be very evident soon.  I haven't seen anyone else do it, either.  Probably because it's stupid...but stupid can be fun.

gave up trying to find them around here. everyone here thinks theyre made of gold and priced accordingly.

You could post a "want" ad.  That's how I got this one.  Of course I got lots and lots of pricey ones, but you only need to find one that someone is just fed up with wants gone.

that's an expensive scooter! got my 50 for free, with $5 worth of gas, and $10 worth of oil in it ! runs about 30 mph, can't imagine filling up more than twice a year.

my 250cc was $1000, but it has efi and stupid low miles, does 90mph two up, and still gets 60mpg at that speed.

are you going to turbo the scooter?
knobbies?
gymkhana killer?

PPL here have no concept of scooters. (or gopeds lol) like why gopeds cost so much. my first one was 20+yo when I got it. and was nearly perfect. the CN stuff you must take care of it. if you do, theyre great. wouldn't mind finding a non running beater. or another moped  but have plans on finishing my ped first. as my primary transportation. huffy with the Subaru is next, as backup.

I'm not saying yet...mostly because I'm not sure if it'll work and I may have to go another way and want to retain the right to say that's what I was doing all along.

First order of business:  Wiring.  Chinese bike wiring is ghey.  This is what it had:

Of that, this is all the stuff you don't need:

makenzie71

I got a little work done this afternoon.  De-bung'ed the frame.  Removed all the brackets and anything extra since I won't be needing them anyway.

To go with the above wiring image, this is all the other crap you don't really need on the scooter:

Also, a little bit of a teaser to show where I'm hoping she's going.

Lastly, a lot of people talk shaZam! about the Chinese scooters.  I'm here to tell you that it's okay.  This one's good.  It has ABS.

yamahonkawazuki

Ehh theyre not sh*t IF looked after. the wiring or spare parts in some cases is mediocre.  but the gy6 plant seems to be dependable. cept for the plastic manifold. ( the OEM one) liking what I see thusfar. looking forward to more :)

I work on china bikes all the time and 90% of the problems are terrible wiring.  I have yet to see one, other than the solid state pitbikes, that is up to any kind of real strain.  Admittedly, though, I have no seen them all.

Well yes. the wiring is mediocre at best. the gy6 engines are imho great. the US is in trouble as is the rest of the  bike building world  if the Chinese figure out quality. they've figured the art of the copy.

oh wow, that's one of those abs system that puts an air bubble in the line, on purpose. ditch the big honking death abs thing and enjoy real brakes again !nice idea you're bringing to life there. I like it.

Yeah the only reason that ABS thing hasn't gone in the scrap bin already is because I don't have an appropriate banjo line to replace it with yet.

Interesting and idiotic, two works rarely put together. Care to explain it? I've heard of the cheap ones that just limit braking pressure but not this.

makenzie71

It's not really an ABS system like you see in a car...it also doesn't have anything to do with an air bubble.  Or this type does not.  What we see on most scooters and bikes out of China claiming to have "ABS" is something that works like a pressure regulator on an air compressor...or a blow off valve on a turbo car is probably a more apt comparison.  Essentially there's a piston inside the the gadget that increases line volume after pressure from the master cylinder exceeds a certain level, which takes pressure off the slave (caliper).

In theory it works pretty well.  It makes it so that you can never apply so much pressure as to lock up the front wheel.   But it's also rather limiting.

makenzie71

I cut off some more of the frame, got a new  backbone, and setup my R6 shock mount.  The forks REALLY suck now...I'm really not sure what I'm going to do about them but I got to do something.

yamahonkawazuki

my friend im liking that if I had the money id ride it.  got my goped in the works, tho. and the subie huffy
but that ill keep as motivation

I got the mount for tank tacked in place.  Rolled a bunch of tape around teh ends until I get bushings.  The tail of the tank will cinch down to the backbone with a hose clamp.  Simple and pretty effective.

Haha watching dyno videos of these motors running what I'm going to be running...exhaust, emgo or a K&N, and proper jetting...I'm going to be making about 17whp and weigh in at about 150lbs.

yamahonkawazuki

that pig will FLY.  did you mention gear ratios err belts etc. love to ee what she will do. still miss that cx of yours tho. a Japanese motoguzzi lol. an awesome bike imho
