Ha! Thanks Cbr. I was wondering how long into winter before somebody went and bumped the project threads (I had considered doing it myself.....).

Not a whole lot to update on mine - working on the beginning stages of paint for the fender & fairing, smoothing out the glass on the seat, and creating some "storage space". Hoping to get some steady garage time after Christmas.

Ok, so I guess it's time for some actual progress. I did the primer and color coats on the fender and fairing..... but not the clear coat and pinstripes yet:

Still chugging away at the fiberglass seat (kicking my butt btw!!) and working on some saddlebag mounts around the seat frame. I'll be ordering (and learning how to use) pinstriping stuff soon too. But the fiberglass seat is on the top of my priority list after the clear coating of the fairing / fender is done.

Glad to see the progress Rich, looking good as always!

What's kicking you with the seat? General shaping or just getting a smooth even finish on it? I do recall getting that smooth even finish was the most painful part of all.

Thanks Pete!

Yep, trying to get that smooth / even finish. Adding fiberglass, letting it cure, sanding smooth, etc.... it's taking a lot longer than I had thought. I'll get it, just wish I had an "easy" button. Ha!

That looks awesome Rich... a really cool pic to start my morning with  :D

I hear ya about smoothing out fiberglass... I'm to that point on a lot of areas on the Spirit... ditto on the easy button!!!

Yep that's the tedious bit Rich! But it's worth the effort and patience, you will be so glad you took your time with it when you're done.

ShowBiz... what's the Spirit? Sorry Rich gotta hijack for curiousity's sake :D

No worries on my end Pete. I don't mind talking about the most awesome mid 90's econobox:

Showbiz does some amazing artwork..... which is why I consulted her for the paint on my GR650.

Just saw this now... sorry for missing your question Pete! Yeah I stopped updating that thread but I have been working almost every weekend on the car. Maybe I'll update the thread with some pictures this weekend... thank you for the complement!!

And Rich, thank you for your kind words about the Spirit... Ya made me blush  :embarassed:  :D

No probs ShowBiz! I have the artistic ability of a snail so I appreciate the talent of those that have it :D

I did however successfully draw a stick man once  :thumb:

Haha..... I was wondering how long I could slip under the radar..... I have made a good bit of progress, but mostly rushing things a little since riding season is approaching  (or at least a couple nice days between snow falls). And I really haven't been taking any pictures as I go. First, I cut and buffed the gas tank (sorry about the dark pic..... cell phone camera in a dark garage = low quality):

And believe it or not, this is the only other pic I have.

I'm working on the saddle bag mount / luggage rack, and took this picture for reference. But you can see the windscreen is mounted up, front turn signals, tool tube under the seat, clear stompgrip pads on the tank (I'll be putting black ones on soon), and a little bit of the seat. The seat...... isn't perfectly smooth yet, but I need something to sit on! Did I mention it will be 60° on sunday? Haha.....

Hey man!

Haven't been on in a while, got really bogged down with extensive html classes at school, loving the progress on the 650! I'm gonna start following the build again, what's left at least!

peteGS

Awesome Rich! The little bit of the seat I can see looks good :D

I love the fairing! It looks so much better than the "modern" fairing on my F!

Big Rich

Mr Sporrer! Glad to hear your busy with school. How's the bike treating ya? I'd guess it's been a little neglected this winter, but that's ok too.

Pete & Rally - thanks fellas! The seat has some pinholes in the filler, and I had a pretty hard time getting it symmetrical in the rear. Not easily noticed, unless you own the bike and have an OCD..... haha. And I made a llittle shroud & lens cover for the fairing too. There's just something about the early GSXR fairings that I really dig.

It's the endurance racer look that wins me over. That "just back from the Bol D'Or" rounded lamp curvy look is all the money

peteGS

You know you have to follow that up with more pic's Rich :D

Soon as I get my hands on some styrofoam I will be starting to shape a new solo seat pan for the 450 and will be looking at a one piece combined solo seat/tail piece for the Kat... I'm looking forward to it!

In the meantime I need a refresher of the pain I'm going to face :D
