Painted Rear Hub?

I am repainting my rear wheel rims and found the original wheel hub (Item #6 below) is unpainted.  Searching the internet it appears most bikes (but not all) have the rear hub unpainted.

Is there some reason why you would not want to paint that part to match the rims?  Or is it purely aestetics?

Failing to come with a any good reasons not to paint the hub I painted it....

No reason not to paint it. Especially if you use an open sprocket.
