Does anyone know or have on hand to measure a primary petcocks grommets and/or bolt seperation? I'd like to replace the filter and grommet. During the mods of my bike I hit the filter with a hot air gun and the plastic warped now I don't know if the filter material is affected but I will replace anyway to ensure fuel delivery is as good as it can be. Do the filters just pop out with enough force?

the filter is a pressure fit,my screen was busted so i replaced it with an ax100 petcock screen, doesnt fit perfectly but almost, the little tubes that insert on the metal piece are narrower, teflon+ gas resistant sealant made the trick.

Thank you sir. I appreciate that reply so much as that is the petcock I got for a budget price. So when you did yours did you happen to use the seal from this? Or would you remember having them each in front of you and considering a difference if any?

I've been putting this off but I can't keep leaking fuel and I need to address every aspect of the fuel delivery to understand why its become a little less fun in first and second when I give it everything.

As I said the screen is almost identical except for the plastic tubes that insert into the metallic part. They are both narrower and are less apart,so they rub on the inside of the holes from one side leaving like a C of gap in the sides that are more apart. (Co)(o))
( ) are the holes in metal, C is the gap, o is the plastic tube ROM the screen. For the right side isn't have a reversed C so I used two parenthesis.
I hope it's clear enough.
If this is not sealed and isolated you will not have reserve function and you could be sucking dirt from the bottom.
I used siloc 1140 , I am from Argentina and this is a gasket forming material gasoline resistant. It's manufactured here, I'm sure you could find something similar where you live, you can look for the datasheet and compare with some Loctite specific or something.
It's been 6 months submerged in gasoline and yet no problems.

For the gasket you are saying, that is, a rectangular oring with rounded sides I found the one from the ax100 was way too different and smaller.
Maybe if you go to an orings shop you could find a circular oring that fits in place,  with exact lenght although circular it should be pliable and fit in the groove. You can use the original(I replaced it before so i didn't have to worry about that) or reinforce the junction with sealant for now.

Ps.What happened with the cranking problem?

Yeah, when I said "seal," I actually meant "grommet." Cheers! It's a shame it's smaller, looks like I'll be using a similar gasket seal solution as you did, and for the grommet. Thanks for the explanation.

What do you mean by "cranking problem"?

What year is your GS500? The o-ring between the tank petcock and tank is still available new from Suzuki for around $5.00 so no reason to mess around with making circular o-rings in an oval slot. When it comes to keeping fuel from leaking I would want the correct part, not some goo that you have to hope is fuel resistant long term.

The filter screen isn't available as a separate part from Suzuki but you can probably find  an ok part on eBay for not much money.
