Hi everyone !

Ive never had a suzuki bike before but i have an opportunity to buy a 2009 gs 500f with 12k miles on it unused for 6 months by its 1st owner since she had a baby.

Ive had cbr250, vulcan 500, katana 750, thunderbird 900 and currently ride a 2010 shadow Rs.

Ive heard gs bikes built before 2003 were the best because they were assembled in Japan before going overseas.

Is the 2009 model good ? Any way to know if the carbs are good?

Thanks so much !!

2009 is fine, there were no big dropoffs in quality. Start it and take it for a ride if she starts and idles with the choke and then idles well when warm, carbs are probably fine. But no great deal overhauling them either.

Post some pictures for us to see 😉

Looks in good nick!

what do you love about your gs ?

If it runs as good as it looks, that's a killer deal for $1500!

Those fairings are in really nice shape. That's unusual.

Personally, I love how good an all purpose motorcycle the GS is.

It's very comfortable. I take it on long multi-day tours.

It's decently quick with 50hp and ~400# weight. The engine has a fun and playful powerband at high RPM.

It's very simple and easy to work on.

It's common enough that there are still tons of parts available: OEM, aftermarket, and used.

With a few simple mods (fork springs and R6 rear shock) the handling is pretty good.

Aside from reliability, it's not the best at anything. However, it's pretty damn good at a LOT of different things.
