Title: BAD news...again
Post by: 505 on June 05, 2008, 01:31:25 AM
yep, pretty sure...I put my motor in a while ago but i just got it running on saturday night.  started makin some noises today on the way home.  ive been checking the oil before i ride and after  but when i got home i changed the oil and only about half a quart came out.  there are no leaks that i see and it wasn't smoking, seems like the oil just went POOF! gone.  so after a good 4 days of having my bike back im pretty sure motor is done.  still starts fine and runs, it just has no power and makes a lot of noise. sucks.  it sucks bad!!!    anyone know how much it costs in parts to do a rebuild?  cause i have two motors that dont work.... but i might just buy another haha. so if anyone knows of a good gs motor for sale you should let me know.  thanks.     oh yeah, the good news.  i wired up an integrated sv650 tail light on it, its awesome!

are you checking the oil properly ? unscrew the dipstsick, wipe, insert (without tightening) and check, with the bike on flat level ground ?

unless you're riding 1000 miles in a weekend, and all of it at 9,000 rpm's, it shouldn't burn/use that much oil in a weekend. i mean, assuming the thing wasn't shot to begin with.

that sucks. :(

you may just figure out you need to start a business rebuilding bike engines ;)

got pics of the sv setup ?

add oil back into it.. take it out to the driveway or flat sidewalk.  wash the entire motor so it is clean..Now turn the bike on and let it run for awhile.  After awhile you should be able to find where it is lieaking from. dont count the motor out just yet.  These things are pretty hardcore.   And if you do have to rebuild  you should be able to swap parts from one to the other pretty easily.     It seems like everyone out there this month is either getting hit  or  loosing their motors..

Yeow ... yea lots of dead motors the last few weeks huh ... Last year my clown ass friend also lost his in summer. Maybe suzuki put a time sensitive swith in these, so in 10-12 years the switch flips and they die.
Cool.
