when they swell, they dont lift the slides as much for given point of vacume.  you wont ever get the carbs to Tune correctly again, unless you replace them, some carbs you CANT replace just the diaphrams, you need the whole slide. i might have my old Sabre carbs still around, they are the same thing, but these are for a 1100.  i will look.

The diaphragms swell and then when they get dry again they go back to original size... and behave perfectly... unless they get out of the slide. Then you'd have to get them back in the groove. No idea about magna/sabre carbs, amybe they are made of material that swells and doesn't shrink... GS and eli and KZ and Virago 535 and nitehawk (shared with magna/sabre ??) carbs swell and shrink.

Hmm, I'll have to thoroughly check out the Clymer manual again and see if they discuss this.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to bring myself to clean off my work bench in the garage, so I haven't done any more  I know, lame.  

I tried to convince my wife to let me work on them in the nice, air-conditioned kitchen but she said no.  Imagine that; I told her it would only smell a LITTLE like gasoline...

It's been really humid here, but I'm going to get back to it tonight.

So, I've got a bottle of Gumout, maybe half a bottle of Yamaha, and a spray can which I bought but haven't used.

Spray only the non rubber parts, the soak just gas and yamaha stuff should work.
