how do you prep the fenders and tank for new paint

should i scuff it with super fine sand paper or what........ im gonna rattle can it but i want it to stick im ready for something other than turquoise and that paint scheme thread got me thinking.

im replying to my own post. That thread was a run on and a sentence fragment at the same time.  I need to start using real sentences before i get back to school and accidently write papers in forum form.

I've prepped cars to be painted, and for that, it's 400 grit sandpaper until the surface is uniformly dull. If you have any rust, creases, or dings, you need to take the area down to metal, bondo the damage, sand the bondo to shape, prime it and any exposed metal, and sand the primer.

Rattlecan is rattlecan quality.  Many auto body supply shops will mix you up gen-u-wyne auto paint and toss it into cans; Wesco here in Seattle will do that, for instance.  It's about $55 for a minimum pint order.
