Tail of the Dragon

I just got back from a great weekend at the Tail of the Dragon.  For those of you who do no know what I am talking about imagin a 11 mile streach of highway having 318 turns throught the mountians of Tenn. and North Carolina.   I would strongly recommend this area for a fun and beautiful weekend.  

Also as a GS500f owner I beleave that all of us should try to form a weekend next year and have a gs500 weekend at  the infamous Tail of the Dragon.

Yeap, it is a fun road. Just watch out for the cops and pay attention to signals from other bikers. If you see a rider tapping the top of his helmet, that means there is a cop ahead.

There are some other good roads in that area as well, Cherohala Skyway has some excellent views. There is a great place to eat there as well, Bistro by the River, I think it is called.

Wow. That sounds like it's all turns & no straights.

For a beautiful twisty ride in Arizona, we've got  the Coronado Trail in eastern Az(Az hghway 180). From Morenci(elev. 4,080 feet)  to Alpine(elev. 8,050 feet),  there are 470 turns in 89 miles(some straight pieces). The Alpine area is also referred to as "Little Switzerland". The town is in a valley with a 10,877 peak on one side. It's occasionally reported as the cold spot for the lower 48 states during the winter. Hopefully I'll get to do a ride over there this summer. I've only been through the road a few times. There's very little traffic, and anything with four wheels will be going verrrry slow.

You was eating those supersports up with the two stroke.   LOL    The Little GS's  took to the road great also I was suprised how well the GS kept up with the bigger bikes like the GSXR's and the Ninja's   Althogh they might leave ya in the dust in the straights they aint got shot in the twisty's.  So what time next year are the GS500's invading the Dragon???

I was down there in May for the 5th annual Eastern Two Stroke Rally.  One of the bikes in front of me was a Aprillia Mille R.  One of my buddies brought his Derby 50 down and was eating up all the big sport bikes on the downhills.  Funny as hell.

When I was there a month ago or so, one of the riders in the group was on a Husky Motard. Only saw him enter the first turn. He said he was passing everyone without even trying. Still had 1/4" chicken strips left.

Just came back from there myself, what a rush! Actually almost all the roads in that area are a blast. If you are going to plan a weekend, I would like to suggest Memorial Day weekend. Don't know how busy the Dragon will be then, but atleast it's a three-day weekend for some of us who have to spend a few hours on the road to get there.

Great video.  Those literbikes sure are slow in the turns, aren't they?  What fun to watch a superior rider on a smaller bike outride less adept riders on expensive big bore machines!

Thanks.  What was really funny, was that is was less than two weeks after double hernia surgery.  I was so sore, I couldn't kick start the bike, I had to have my buddies do it for me.  I also couldn't hang off of the bike, it is a good thing the bike has rear sets, so at least my pegs and boots weren't dragging.
