Forgotten/neglected/spaced off

... buckling your chin strap?

I did it for the third time tonight.  At least this time I caught it in about 30 yards instead of 16 miles like the last time.

Jenerator

I did it once and it scared the crap outta me when I realized it was the undone strap that was tickling my neck!

It happened because I was distracted by talking with someone while suiting up.  Now, after putting on my jacket, my helmet goes on and is done up.

pfb

I did it a couple of times, and I couldn't figure out what was making the flapping noise - it was the end of the strap hitting the side of my helmet! Now I seem to have my pre-ride routine sorted out, and I check the strap before I ride off...

Can't say I've done it...Must be good at following a boring routine.

Got anxious at my track day and did that! Realized it quickly and did a slow lap, pulled in the pit, fixed it, and rolled!

I've already done it twice in about two months.

I just cut the damned thing off so I don't have to worry about forgetting to buckle it. :nana:

I've had my Dad remind me a couple of times before taking off (woops). Once, I hadn't realized I forgot to buckle my chin strap until after I was on the highway. It kept banging into my helmet. Instead of doing the smart thing and pull over I decided to keep on going and buckle it up one-handed (with gloves to boot?!?) :?  :o  Not my best moment, but everything turned out all right.

I've never done it on a motorcycle. From 1973 till 1986 I was a professional Hang Glider pilot. This was during the "Waldo Pepper" reinvention of the wing era of Hang Gliding. Many pilots did not wear helmets. We would remove the helmet after landing the glider at the bottom of the training hill, and then strap the helmet to the main frame X-member and carry the glider back up the hill.   The normal procedure was to put the helmet back on at the top, connect your suspension harness to the glider, wait for the wind and then take off and fly like a bird till the earth came back to meet you and you had to land. Well, I forgot to put the helmet on once, and as soon as I was air borne I realized the errors of my ways as I looked above me and saw the helmet hanging uselessly from the X-member. It only happened that one time. I can remember feeling less secure during the flight down, and the ribbing from my buddies was endless.

Now I know that I'm in good company.  I need to work on the routine a little more.  Last night I was attaching my tail bag to the bike and got distracted while I was strapping in.  Focus, focus, focus.

BigRedMonkeyButt

I forget it reguarly, but I realize it as soon as I hit 50 - 60mph, and the metal button starts smacking the side of the helmet.

Have done it. I routinely check myself at stoplights. Why at stoplights? Something at the back of my mind says, "Now, what did I forget...".

i did it once... i did buckle it.. but i guess i didnt do it right... i realized that i didnt do it from the strap knock the side of my helmet... it was annoying... so i pulled over and put it back on right...

Lots of times, but none lately.  Somehow my body is programmed to open my jaw as I'm getting ready to go.  If there's no pressure on the top of my head (from my chin pushing down on the strap) then a "light goes off".  Even so, sometimes it takes me a second to figure out exactly what the problem is.

You mean you wear your helmet 24/7?
