Oh dear god....

Well...i rode a 99 CBR 600 tonight....OMG. It had been wrecked, so the upper was gone, the left reaset was gone (save for the shift lever that still worked fine). The rear fender was cracked, and all the other pegs were bent. BUT OMG WAS IT NICE!

The bike was just sooooo smooooth, i loved it SOO MUCH!! Even with all the defects it was beautiful, i was not expecting that.  AND IT WAS SOO DAMN LIGHT!!! I could lean it (in a standing position) almost all the way down to the pegs WITH NO PROBLEMS! It was lowered, but still.... Im going to test ride a 97 F3 tonight too....I cant wait now....I may end up with a new bike sooner than i planned......

Ok, i know its comming, so lets go ahead and hear the arguments, lol, j/k. But seriously, my god it was nice....even for how tore back it was awsome. The 97 im gonna ride tonight, is near perfect, and the price is right. Anyways, everyone have a good weekend!! RIDE SAFE!!

Hey, if that's what you like, that's what you like.

Not for me.  I don't hear much about people riding 600 miles in a day on those.  Or putting 50K miles on them.  You'd probably find it boring at highway speeds for long, if not danged uncomfortable.  I've heard any kind of "four" gets traded for a twin with a little character if the rider has to do much long highway riding.  Smooth is good, but puts you to sleep.  Dangerous keeps you awake, until you sleep forever.  (Deep, eh?)

Naw, have at it.  Every bike is great, and every bike is crap.  Ride what you like.  But don't forget from whence you came.

why get a honda?  get a gixxer, the hondas are by far the most to be described as heavy compared to other bikes.  Anyways all the other bike manufactures stopped making 750cc sportbikes cause Suzuki wooped them from the beginning, since 1985

Well, this is forcing me to re-list my bike tomorrow for sale at an even lower price, lol. I have all of the parts to make this 99 sweet again...minus the upper fairing. As for the smooth thing, I agree, but the vibration from the twin, and the constant buzzing is driving me insane. Anyways, im going to looka t it again tomorrow, and possibly throw out an offer to the guy. So hopefully everythign will work out, im not worried about the condition of the plastics/paint, cause chances are im gonna be stupid and fur it, you know the ladies love a furry bike :). oh, and as for comfort, this was quite possibly the most comfortable bike ive sat on. Being 6'2" i sit up just enoughon the GS to feel a NICE blast of wind around my chest and up under my helmet, on the honda, i wasnt overly leaned forward, and i wasnt sitting up, it was a nice medium. And of course, it has a low center of gravity, being as its got lowering links. Ill take my digi cam tomorrow for pics. Have a good night.

Yea those are sweet lookin bikes.  I had planned to get a 94 F2 or 95 F3, or SV 650 this past summer but couldnt swing the insurance.  For being considered and old bike those F2's and 3's still look damn good, they were in a whole league of there own back in the day.

Me, and a few guys here, ride from San Diego to Las Vegas on a regular basis. . (me, usin' my Gix6.)  It's not that bad. (feet on the back pegs, left arm on the tank, and right arm doin the work.) . . .   The guys just like goin the vegas thing, cuz we get liek this whole freeway, free for stunting and what not.  Whole load of F4i's and Liter bikes, and everything else in the middle.   It may not be as comfy as the GS, but I wouldn't mind just as much. . .

I love the F4i.  I'm actually thinkin' about trading the Gix for the F4i. . .  Don't get me wrong.  The Gix is a great bike.  Awesome power, much more than the F4i. .   But for Stunting, The GSXR's are known more for blowing up engines quicker (They seem to not like being up on one as well.), and also, F4i's are TANKS ! !  takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'..  F4i's I believe are sturdier, and can lean harder.  Plus, they go down, and stilll keep most of it's parts in tact.

love the F4i's  you won't regret ur buy whicever CBR u get=)

I see I am contradicted that nobody rides your CBR-type bikes for 600 miles at a day.  Anyone want to contradict me that nobody rides them for 50K miles?  I may have to change my tune.

Yeah, comfort is a very personal thing.  I'm also 6'2".  From the waist up I am very comfortable on my GS.  Sure I'm close to straight up (cue: Paula Abdul).  Have a look:

Maybe that position is uncomfortable for you, but I like it better than leaning more forward.  And I've gotten used to the wind blast.  I figure, in the hot Oklahoma summers it's goig to be a plus.  But I admit I've yet to ride more than 60 miles away.  When I get ready for a 600-mile trip I think I'll be looking at a shield.

I'll also admit that while I'm OK from the waist up, I'm a little folded even on the GS from the waist down.  See the wrinkles in the jeans behind my knees.  That's a real tight spot when I have my Teknic riding pants on.

For me good is the GS ergoes, better would be maybe a Bandit or CB750 or maybe Concours (borrowed one, if REALLY bored have a look at some underexposed shots at
http://faculty.swosu.edu/michael.dougherty/Connie/  ), best would be a VStrom or Bonneville and unobtainable would be a Goldwing, though I think that might REALLY put me to sleep without a good sound system.  I don't know but I do like the look of a Valdyrie though!  Anyhow...

On the other side, I tried real hard to like bikes like the 599, and sat on a few of the "bigger" Ninjas, but so far I just like sitting more upright.  I admit I assumed the CBR's were of the same ilk as the post-500cc Ninjas.  Now you have me curious.  But with a wife and two kids it still seems like wretched excess in the fun&dangerous department to think about those.

But again to each his own.  Let us know how it goes trying to get the bike.

The Gixxer750 is essentially a GSXR-600 with a larger engine.  The only reason it has lasted (many say) is that its RnD costs piggy back on the 600's development budget.  Lately though it seems that many manufacturers are getting back on the mid-sized bandwagon... with the Kawi 636 and Daytona 650, there are now serious choices in the 110-130 hp sportbike range  :)

Back to the CBR, I have a riding pal who rides an F3 with alot of mods to it (jets, can, etc).  That thing is FAST with a competent rider on it, and the styling IMO is fantastic.  My '01 R6 had just a touch more power in the straights, but otherwise the F3 was every bit as effective.  

No thoroughbred sportbike is gonna be comfortable for long rides.  If you plan on doing this, add a few reps to your lower back exercises at the gym  ;)   I can easily ride 250 miles a day on the R6 or SV650S.  My best ride was 950 miles in three days and I was pretty beat by the end.

Geek- I had an F2.... I had a few 400 mile days (just shy of it)  on it . I put almost 1000 miles on it the week I got it.  

I had 5000 miles on my F2 ...it would have had alot more but it was stolen and never recovered.  

Power is not overwhelming (It is a BIG jump from a Gs500e...which is what I went from to the CBR.)  Wheel base/ seat height etc are very close from the Gs to the F2. The  F2's handling was confidence inspiring... point it where you wanted to go and it went (I don't mean straight line..).
I ran into a guy with an F2 with 40+k on his...rode it everyday. Hondas are pretty reliable ( take care of anything and it should last..).


The F2 was surprisingly comfy (depends on how each bike fits YOU...).  You get the wind buffetting your head..but you get that with any sportbike with a low windscreen.

I think anyone would do well to get a CBR ...especially as a step up from the Gs500e. Just respect the extra power and you should be fine.
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.

The Ducati 748/749 is classed in World Supersport, racing against 600cc 4cyl bikes, and it's still not competitive.

But it is Italian.

Jared, are you the guy I traded exhaust pipes/mufflers with last summer?  If so, I don't remember you ever letting me know if it arrived OK and we were all square.  Hope so.  Thanks for the input on the CBR.

I did "test ride" an F3 (i think.. which ever one was the smoking joe edition) and I loved the bike... only thing I didnt like was the speedo needle bouncing up and down all over the place when I got to about 145mph... dont ask how I found out on a test drive  :lol: .

Although if given a choice I'd go for an F4I and fit a corbin seat or something cause the honda seats are like a piece of plywood.

Honestly, though, I would prefer a 500cc V-twin that's a skosh lighter than the SV650.  That would make me very very happy.  The SV makes me happy, though, don't get me wrong...
