Any info on modifications to the stock pipes?  I have a 99 gs500e, and I need it to roar.  Right now, it just sort of purrs a bit.

JetSwing

hey, the only real feasible way would be to replace the pipe...you could go with a slip on a full system. there are a couple of full system out there for gs. as for a slip on, you have lots of option if you have a flange made for whatever aftermarket pipe you might get...there's a guy ( i forget his name   ) on this forum who makes the flages (are we allowed to advertise?   )

read a few threads down...or do a search for "flange". i'm sure he'll chime in soon... :thumb:

btw, is this your first bike?

his member name is seshadri srinath. he is on here all the time and very helpful. he is making me a flange as we speak. i got a wileyco slip on that he suggested off ebay(dennis kirk store) for dirt cheap. $62.00 shipped to my door. scratch and dent special. the only thing wrong with it is a scratch on the decal. big deal, like that affects the performance. :thumb:

there are some old threads on drilling your existing exhaust if you do a "search"

here's one, there are a few others around, try 'drilling exhaust' in the search area and use 'containing all terms' button

IMO i would just go for the slip on mod its cheap enough, plus anything has to be better than the stock paperweight.

What they mean is ...
Get this off ebay ...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4523509848&category=35596

Then I can make a flange and mid pipe that will let you slip fit it ... That flange is $40 and shipping ... making for a under $110 including all shipping slip on pipe ... that is good quality and works and looks right on a GS.
BTW that non jetting ... you'd have to tell me specifically cos its got a angled steel plate inside cutting off some flow ... removeable when you rejet of course ... The catch ... I have about 6 I can make, and they are mostly sold before I start on them ... I have some left I believe at this point ... but you might want to get on it ...
Cool.

hey seshadri_srinath, do you have any sound files for what the new exhaust would sound like if I ordered from you.  I would be interested in hearing that.  I checked out the drillin method on bikepower, and I didn't really care for the sound files they provided.  Sounded too much like a weedwhacker on crack.

The Buddha

Someone has had them done ... the thing though is Ti and stainless and Carbon all sound different. I have Laura's Ti one ... but you can only get SS ... I dunno hot to say it ... its loud but not tinny and rattly ... deep rumble like ... More RC51 than ZX7 obviusly ... being a twin ...
But has someone made a sound clip ... post here please ...
Cool.

D-Day

I drilled my stock pipe (both end plate and internal baffle) in desperation before I did my first track day.  It is almost as loud at a V&H system, and require the same rejetting to work right.

It is still heavy, but at least you can hear it.

not to start hijacking but has anyone ever thought about making an under-the-tail, kinda like the honda rr, mount pipe? what about a dual one on each side or both on one side? just a thought. can and will it work?

it's has been discussed before...the bottomline is if you're willing to spend $$$, any of those are possible (and has been done on gs). i don't think most us are.
