Aussie GS

Yes Ive turned trator :o , a trip to the Suzuki dealer to pick up a carb dieaphram cost me $4000 but solved all the power lag problems I was haveing. He had a traded 2004 650 DL V-Strom, only 1890 Kilometers on it,like new not a scratch on it, he offered me $4500 for my 2002 GS with its 30 000 KM so only $4000 change over { our dollar is only 77 cents US}.Still I agonized, there is just something about the GS 500 that makes a person reluctant to move on but rego was due $500, needed a new tyre $250,the warranty was about to finish, {the DL has 18 months factory warranty transferable} and the smooth power of the DL at any rev range all proved too inticeing, after a 50 KM test ride that was faultless I told the dealer it was a done deal and sadly said goodbuy to my faithfull {all be it power starved GS 500} Ive only put a further 1100 KM on the DL so far but still very impressed with every aspect of the bike except for the fairing which is a complete stuff up, the turbulence it makes bounces your head round like a feather in a hurricane, and I miss the low seating of the GS that made it a breeze to move around the car port, oh and a centre stand, thats a $450 optinal extra here, otherwise a very very nice bike.
So sadly Aussie GS is logging off from an exceptinal forum site that unfortunatly I only found 2 months ago even though Ive had the GS for 2 years,Stay safe and have fun everyone,  :thumb:

I thought I read the DL's had adjustable windscreens, is that true?  :dunno:

I have sat upon the DL. Nice bike and sounds like a good enough deal from a retailer. Don't stay away too long. Your GS experience will contribute to our knowledge pool and your DL can give us some new information. If I remember correctly, one of the DL's has an adjustable screen.

Enjoy!

Beautiful bike.  I hope to find a used one someday, when they come down in price.  Maybe if I find a cheap one with a broken fairing, I can glue it together and carbon-fiber over it, or something.

It sounds like things cost a tad more down under:  the 2005 DL650 is listing for $6599 in most dealerships... about $8610 AU.
You cannot escape our master plan!

Yes the 04 DL 650 does have a ajustable screen but saddly all positions are just as useless as each other, and yes they rob us blind down here in Aussie, list price $9990+ on road and dealer charges, $11000,hell they want $450 just for a centre stand  :dunno: Which part of Tassie is I love YOU from?

That's a bike I want.  Sitting nirvana if you ask me.  Sorry to read about the windscreen.  Good to know. The exhaust coming out the bottom is pretty ugly, and I'm glad they blacked out more of the frame for '05, and a belly-pan (to hide exhaust if nothing else) like on the 1000 would be nice, but man what a nice sit.  Please use this thread to further update us on your impressions!

Ha, ha, ha, another victim of the V-Twin bug.

Enjoy.
Retired from biking

Hi-T

Yeah - that v-twin bug has been going around... I cought it late last year and I'm still suffering from the effects...

I believe my Mum grew up in Hobart or round abouts.  I'd have to ask to be sure.  I think she mentioned living close to 7 mile beach...

Well except for the fairing it truely is a mavelous ride,I thought the GS was a good handler but the 650 V-Strom can do the twisty's even better with heaps of grunt to pull you out of the bends which is were my GS was lacking. Just like the GS it's a real fun bike to ride, that much I do know from the short 1200km Ive done so far,as for reliability well I guess I wont know that untill about 10 years when with luck it is still running sweet just like so many of the trusty GS 500 are. I have put a real short screen on so the wind force is kept off my chest but my helmet is full in the airstream wich solved the turbules buffeting problem and I hear there are after maket screens that will give full protection without the head buffeting so Im also cecking in to that.

Yup, Seven Mile Beach is south east of Hobart, just south of the airport.  It's a pretty spot and most notable lately for being the place where a giant squid washed up on the sand.  Got my mate, the squid expert really excited.
