An 80hp GS!!!

The auction is for rims, but the guy desscribes his bike (which he wants to sell).

I didn't know simple mods like those could more than double the horsepower of a stock engine. Looks like I'm using the wrong jetkit and exhaust.

I have done pretty similar mods to my bike, and I'd have a really hard time believing that it puts out any more than 45hp (i'd guess somewhere between 35 and 40). Am I just being mean? Is 80hp even possible?

man, i have no experience or extensive knowledge w/r/t your question, but just reading that guys description gave me more chuckles than a litter of spraypainted puppydogs. my favorites:
It's a 1991 GS500E (GS 500 E) and it's sweet. It's about 70% done.
The engine was just rebuilt (because I wanted to, not because it needed it(!!!!)

Kerry you're a card. And 80 from a Baby G? I've known people to get 60 or so out of old Trumpet 650 dual carb motors...they were only two-valve engines like the Baby, plus they were push-rod motors...low rpm hi-torque.
But with the G pushing say, 9500 rpm that would be a little over 40 ft-lb...but for how long? Hey BTW, I hadn't known that V&H captured the 2004 NHRA Pro-Stock bike championship...on a Harley!!  Way to freakin' go V&H. Love the Baby and the forum.

FUNNY I thought about 80hp is when the GS starts to teeth crankpins and rods. that is without ballencing and a fluid dampener. oh wait, that was WITH ballencing and dampener, perhaps his is bettwe without  :dunno:

i thought i heard somthing about this quite a while back. if i remember right, some dude took a 700cc polaris motor and stuck it in a frame. wheelie friggin machine.  too powerful, couldnt apply gas til he was fully squared up. dont know about the tranny though.

A guy I work with claims there's a shop near his house that has something along that line... An ATV with a 'busa engine!

Ok, I emailed the guy and he responded.  Here's what I asked him:

"The mods you did to your bike would give it maybe an extra 5hp. Why do you think it has 80+ now? Did you get it dynoed? Thanks, Dom"


And here's what he said;

"I got over 10 hp just from the new carbs and the pipe. The advancer,
the jet kit, filter, and sprocket added at least another 10 to the
rear wheels.  That's not including the larger pistons with the rebuild.
I had the ft pounds calcluated by the tech that did the work.
Dynoed? no. He measured the torque. Rear wheel torque roughly equalled
that of a 77 - 84hp motor.
